African American History Month Takes Off with Tuskegee Airmen Exhibit
|

A special exhibit honoring the Tuskegee Airmen will launch the Forsyth County Public Library’s celebration of National African American History Month when it opens at the Post Road Library on Thursday, February 1. Through a series of photographic panels and stories, “The Tuskegee Airmen: Segregated Skies of World War II” offers a look into the historical challenges and triumphs of these unsung American heroes. To provide greater detail about the Tuskegee Airmen, Getchel Caldwell, Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement and University Relations at Clark Atlanta University will speak at the Post Road Library on Thursday, February 15. The Post Road Library will also host a special One World Forsyth event featuring Bright Star Touring Theatre performing their hit musical revue Freedom Songs: The Music of Black History for children, families, and patrons of all ages on February 11. Freedom Songs will feature music from the hymns of the Underground Railroad, the blues of Beale Street, and anthems of the Civil Rights Movement. Great Decisions Series Continues

Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs. Forsyth County Public Library and the University of North Georgia will present information and lead discussions on a range of fascinating geopolitical topics. In February, we'll discuss America's relationships with China, Russia, and Turkey, as well as media and foreign policy at the Cumming Library.

Sharon Forks Library Closed February 19 - March 23
|
|
Construction on the second phase of the expansion and renovation project at the Sharon Forks Library is nearly complete and the branch will be closed Monday, February 19 through Friday, March 23. We expect to celebrate the expansion of the Sharon Forks Library with a grand reopening ceremony on Saturday, March 24. Details on the event, as well as resuming programs for children, teens, and adults at the Sharon Forks Library, will be announced in the coming weeks. We sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding of our patrons during construction and we’re looking forward to welcoming you back to the library soon.

Johanna Luthman, historian, professor, and author of Love, Madness & Scandal: The Life of Frances Coke Villiers, Viscountess Purbeck, will divulge the secrets of one English noblewoman in the first program of our royal wedding series. With the upcoming nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, "Tying the Windsor Knot" is series of programs highlighting royal marriage, historical figures, fashion, and food. Meet Wicked Author Gregory Maguire at Forsyth Reads Together

Forsyth Reads Together is a county-wide annual event that encourages the entire community to read, discuss, and participate in programs associated with the same book. This year's selection is Wicked: The Life and Time of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. An Evening with Gregory Maguire Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Forsyth Conference Center 3410 Ronald Reagan Blvd., Cumming, Georgia 30041 Mr. Maguire will speak at 7:00 p.m. about Wicked: The Life and Time of the Wicked Witch of the West. Afterward, Mr. Maguire will sign books. An Evening with Gregory Maguire is sponsored by Forsyth County Public Library, FCPL Friends & Advocates, The Forsyth County Arts Alliance Fund at the Forsyth County Community Foundation, and BookLogix.

Forsyth County Seeks Citizen Input on SPLOST
|
|
Forsyth County wants to hear from citizens regarding the types of projects they would like to see funded by the proposed continuation of the SPLOST sales tax program. A series of public input meetings is currently underway, giving citizens the opportunity to weigh in on how funding from the proposed continuation of the penny sales tax program should be allocated.
