Journey with University of North Georgia professor of music Dr. Esther Morgan-Ellis as she takes us from the entrepreneurial career of John Philip Sousa and the jazz-inflected compositions of George Gershwin to the scores of Aaron Copland and modernist composer Ruth Crawford Seeger. ABOUT DR. ESTHER MORGAN-ELLIS |
|
Esther M. Morgan-Ellis serves as Assistant Professor of Music History and World Music at the University of North Georgia, where she also teaches cello and directs the orchestra. Her book, Everybody Sing!: Community Singing in the American Picture Palace, was published in 2018 by UGA Press.

Gabe Fankhauser serves as Associate Professor of Music at the University of North Georgia. He joined the faculty in 2014, after teaching and coordinating music theory at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC for many years. His most recent publications include an article in Music Analysis that uses Schenkerian and phrase rhythm analysis as tools toward interpreting meaning in Shostakovich’s Second Piano Trio. He has a form and analysis textbook currently being published by Kendall-Hunt.
