Seasons Readings! Children and teens, ages 0 to 18, can register to participate in Winter Reading Fun beginning December 21, 2018. Then, track the time you spend reading during winter break, December 21 - January 9. Participants who log at least three hours of reading during winter break will earn a prize, as well as an entry in raffle drawings for passes to The Ice and a Kindle Fire HD8 donated by Zaxby’s! Participants must claim prizes by January 13, 2019.

Are you looking for a unique gift for the book lover on your holiday shopping list? Purchase a book and get it signed by a local author this month at the library! Meet author and professional organizer Heather Rogers on Tuesday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the Post Road Library for a talk on simplifying your life for the holiday season. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation. Meet author and survival guide Mark Warren on Wednesday, December 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Cumming Library for a talk on historical fiction and the legendary lawman of the American West, Wyatt Earp. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation. Meet Sherry Crelin, author and owner of Chamblee Acre farm, on Thursday, December 13 at 11:15 a.m. at the Post Road Library for a special storytime event for preschoolers and elementary-aged children. Make a craft and meet a real chicken! Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing after storytime.

Sensitive Santa December 1, 2, and 16 We understand how challenging it can be for a child with sensory or other special needs to wait in line, be overwhelmed with noises, sounds, and smells, and then rushed to sit on the lap of a person they don’t know very well. The library's Sensitive Santa program offers an alternative to long lines, bright lights, and noisy environments. Click to see dates and locations, as well as registration instructions.

Leap into Literacy with the Gingerbread Man Wednesday, December 5 at 5:30 p.m. Cumming Elementary School Cafeteria 540 Dahlonega Street, Cumming Families with young children are invited to enjoy a simple dinner, stories and songs in English and Spanish, crafts, and early literacy activities to prepare for success in kindergarten. Children can also take home a free book!

Adult Escape Room: The Twelve Days of Christmas Thursday, December 13 TWO GAMES: 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sharon Forks Library Santa's reindeer were a bit mischievous during their games...they’ve hidden Santa’s hat in the Breakout Box! Help the elves solve the Twelve Days of Christmas Clues and unlock the Breakout Box! No registration required. Tickets will be available 15 minutes prior to program start time.

Hampstead Stage presents Prince Caspian: Return to Narnia Sunday, December 16 at 2:00 p.m. Cumming Library The four Pevensie siblings, Lucy, Edmund, Peter, and Susan, return to Narnia where a thousand years have passed since they last visited. The children join the colorful creatures and inhabitants of Narnia in combating an evil villain who prevents the rightful Prince Caspian from ruling the land. Recommended for ages 5 and up. No registration required, but please arrive early for a ticket.

Important Information About Reserving Rooms for Public Use

Last month, Forsyth County Public Library announced the adoption of a new online reservation system for patrons to request use of the library's meeting rooms, study rooms, and conference rooms. From January 1 to January 14, the library will not be accepting future reservation requests for the use of meeting rooms and conference rooms. For instructions on reserving a study room during this period, and for information on future reservations, please visit the Bookmarked blog. We appreciate your patience during this process.
