The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra and The Kingston Public Library present: A History Through Music Wednesday, April 3rd - 6:00pm-7:00pm 66 Second Brook Street, Kingston, MA The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra and the Kingston Public Library will jointly present a free string quartet concert titled, “A History through Music,” at the Kingston Intermediate School auditorium. The 45-minute program will feature a variety of musical periods including baroque, classical, romantic, and contemporary. Kingston Public Library Reference Librarian Steven Miller will introduce each piece, and the concert will conclude with a brief question and answer session with the musicians. The quartet features Plymouth Philharmonic members Ana-Maria LaPointe and Aleksandra Labinska on violin, Elizabeth Christensen on viola, and Peter Zay on cello. The concert is generously sponsored by the Kingston Public Library Foundation, with additional funding from the Kingston Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. No admission or registration is required to attend the concert which is geared towards middle school and high school students, casual music lovers, and regular concert goers of the Plymouth Philharmonic. Mixing The Mediums: An Art & Literature Workshop Wednesday, April 10th - 6:00pm-7:30pm At the Adam's Center In this workshop, local poet Bill Alberti will help participants learn about the creative literary genre of Ekphrastic writing. Participants will be given a handout which will include works of art and the Ekprastic style works of professional writers before trying their own hand at writing short pieces (prose or poetry) about a work of art of their choosing. Participants will also view and discuss famous works of art. No expertise of writing is required to attend this 90-minute workshop, and participants should bring a pen or pencil and notebook paper. This workshop has been conducted in the past at many local libraries on the South Shore, and is supported by a grant from the Kingston Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Craft Supply Swap Saturday, April 20th - 10:00am-12:00pm In the Teen Room Have leftover supplies from a previous project? Want to get started on a new craft, but don't want to go through the motions of getting all of the materials? Check out our craft supply swap! Drop in with some old things, take home some new things! This is a passive program, so don't worry if no one else is around; take what you'd like and leave what you don't!

Poetry Reading Night Thursday, April 25th - 6:30pm-7:30pm At the Faunce School (16 Green Street, Kingston, MA) The Kingston Public Library will host a poetry reading night, featuring local poets Noah Brown and Sheila Lynch-Bettenon. After Brown and Lynch-Bettenon have read selections of their own poetry, the program will feature an “open mic,” where attendees have three minutes to read a favorite poem or their own poetry. Patrons may sign up the night of the program, with a minimum of 10 spots. More information about this event is forthcoming.

Local History Interest Group Thursday, April 25th - 7:00pm-8:00pm At the Adams Center (First Floor Meeting Room) The KPL Local History Interest Group is hosting a meeting this month. This unique discussion group focuses on topics related to local history, with an emphasis on history related to Kingston and the surrounding area.
The aim of this group is to provide patrons with a hands-on opportunity to explore and cultivate an interest in local history on a deeper level and to facilitate dialogue around the various aspects of local history. Also, this discussion group will at times focus on specific materials held in the KPL Local History Collections. The discussion topic for the group’s meeting will be on the historic businesses of Kingston.
