Greetings! Our monthly or bimonthly newsletters are back! They were on hiatus for a few months, but now you can sign up for any one of our newsletters reflecting 24 genres. The Tweens Newsletter will now appear every two months. For this newsletter we have focused on downloadable ebooks and audiobooks. Both of these formats can be downloaded to a computer or an electronic devise (many phones or tablets.) We read an ebook and listen to an audiobook. Three of this month’s selections are offered as both an ebook and an audiobook! Five are downloadable audiobooks and four are downloadable ebooks. If you have not used downloadable material before now is the time to try it! |

Hoot
by Carl Hiaasen
Roy, who is new to his small Florida community, becomes involved in another boy's attempt to save a colony of burrowing owls from a proposed construction site. Unfortunately, Roy's first acquaintance in Florida is Dana Matherson, a well-known bully. Then again, if Dana hadn't been sinking his thumbs into Roy's temples and mashing his face against the school-bus window, Roy might never have spotted the running boy. And the running boy is intriguing: he was running away from the school bus, carried no books, and--here's the odd part--wore no shoes. Sensing a mystery, Roy sets himself on the boy's trail. The chase introduces him to potty-trained alligators, a fake-fart champion, some burrowing owls, a renegade eco-avenger, and several extremely poisonous snakes with unnaturally sparkling tails. Available as an ebook or audiobook.

Okay for now
by Gary D. Schmidt
"2011 National Book Award FinalistAs a fourteen-year-old who just moved to a new town, with no friends and a louse for an older brother, Doug Swieteck has all the stats stacked against him. So begins a coming-of-age masterwork full of equal parts comedy and tragedy from Newbery Honor winner Gary D. Schmidt. As Doug struggles to be more than the "skinny thug" that his teachers and the police think him to be, he finds an unlikely ally in Lil Spicer--a fiery young lady who "smelled like daisies would smell if they were growing in a big field under a clearing sky after a rain." In Lil, Doug finds the strength to endure an abusive father, the suspicions of a whole town, and the return of his oldest brother, forever scarred, from Vietnam. Together, they find asafe haven in the local library, inspiration in learning about the plates of John James Audubon's birds, and a hilarious adventure on a Broadway stage. In this stunning novel, Schmidt expertly weaves multiple themes of loss and recovery in a story teeming with distinctive, unusual characters and invaluable lessons about love, creativity, and survival" Availalbe as an ebook.
