My Parents Won't Stop Talking! by Emma HunsingerWhat it's about: A little girl has big plans for her day at the park, but when her two moms stop to talk to some chatty neighbors she is convinced that her whole day will be completely ruined. Uncommonly common: this hilarious book takes a well-known situation and follows it through to increasingly ridiculous extremes. Recommended for: kids who hate to wait.

Bring Me a Rock! by Daniel MiyaresThe set-up: A tiny insect king demands a rock with which to build his throne. The catch: Too many stones make the throne unstable, and everyone has to work together make a solution. The vibe: This is a book of few words, with a cooperative message and expressive brushwork illustrations.
