Teen Poetry Contest: Our second-annual Teen Eco Poetry Contest is coming up! Submit up to three nature-themed poems, April 1-22. Open to Bay Area teens in grades 6-12. All poets who submit can come get a free notebook at the Children’s Desk of the Main Library (while supplies last). Want to learn more about eco poetry? National Poetry Month: Poet Visit Derrick Austin Saturday April 16, 12:00 pm In-Person Event at the Main Library Join us for a poet event with Derrick Austin. Derrick will read his poetry, followed by a Q&A Session. Derrick Austin is the author of Tenderness (BOA Editions, 2021) and Trouble the Water (BOA Editions, 2016). His first chapbook, Black Sand, is recently out from Foundlings Press.

Arab American Heritage Month Film Saturday, April 9, 2:00 pm In-person Event at the Main Library Celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month at the Main Library with a screening of Caramel (2008, PG, 96 mins). This slice-of-life film follows five women in a Beirut beauty salon as they navigate love, life, and womanhood. This film is in Arabic and will have English subtitles. A to-go dessert from Reem’s will be handed out after the film. This is a free program. No registration is required.
