Adult Winter Reading Club: A Blizzard of BooksJanuary 3 - February 3 When is the best time to read? When you are snowed in from a blizzard! Grab a cup of hot chocolate and snuggle up with your favorite book this winter. Join the winter reading club for your chance to win one of five blizzard comfort/survival baskets. Every book you read awards you an entry into the raffle, the more you read, the more chances you have to win! Read at least one book to be invited to the finale on Saturday, February 8. Registration is required.

Medicaid Enrollment Assistance for the Aged, Blind and Disabled Tuesday, January 21, 3:00pm-7:00pmRepresentatives from the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council will be available to assist aged, blind and disabled patrons enroll in the following programs: Medicaid, Medicaid Buy-In for Working People with Disabilities, Medicaid Spend-Down, Medicare Savings, and Medicaid for care in a nursing home. Assistance will be given on a first come, first served basis. Please bring proof of home address, income, financial resources, and if applicable, proof of supplemental insurance. Shipwreck of Hopes Wednesday, January 22, 7:00pm-8:30pm Angela Reich is a resident of Long Island and serves as docent for New York's historical Fire Island Lighthouse. Ms. Reich is an independent researcher who has shared her love and knowledge of Long Islands maritime history with Lighthouse patrons and various historical societies through the years. Ms. Reich will discuss her novel Shipwreck of Hopes, a true story of the wreck of the ship Elizabeth off Long Island in 1850: a tale of shipwreck, deception, thievery and murder. Copies of the book will be available for purchase for $15.00 cash only. Registration is Required.

Simply Stronger Thursday, January 23, 11:30am-12:15pm In-person registration is required. This exercise class focuses on low-impact cardio and light strength training. Fiddler's Green Saturday, January 25, 2:00pm-3:30pm The Irish/Scottish music of Fiddler's Green has been popular around Long Island for over twenty years. The bands music ranges from rousing to poignant, and the audience is invited to join in with easy to sing choruses. Join Fiddler's Green to celebrate the birthday of poet and lyricist Robert Burns, also known as The Bard of Ayrshire and The National Poet of Scotland. Registration is required.

January 11- February 29 Where do mermaids and pirates go in the winter? They go to the library! Swim over to the library to pick up your Winter Reading Club coloring sheet! After reading one hour, color in the picture and drop it off to the Children’s Room. Children have until February 29 to read four hours to receive great prizes! Registration is required.

Parent Toddler Workshop - Nutrition Tuesday, January 21, 10:30am-11:30am Ages: 18-36 Months Interact with your toddler in a playgroup setting. The focus of this workshop is choosing healthy foods to help our children grow. Participants will learn the benefits of choosing meals that include at least two food groups from the Myplate and will have a chance to taste a healthy snack. Registration is required. 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Any child not yet enrolled in Kindergarten can join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program and earn prizes along the way. You are your child’s most important teacher. This program will blast off your child’s love of reading and their language skills will soar. Children prepare to read years before they enter Kindergarten. From the moment your child is born, they begin to learn words and develop language skills which are important to have before entering school.
