Welcome back, Bears! The spring semester is now underway, and we in the library are ready and excited to offer our services and support to students and to campus departments alike. We have so much to offer this semester (and all year long!), including research assistance, library instruction, print and electronic material, study spaces, and classroom reservations. Amidst this busy semester start, please feel free to drop an email or to stop in to talk with library faculty to find out how we can help you support our students. We look forward to chatting with you and hope you are as excited as we are to explore all of what 2019 has to offer!

PC Photography Collection The Phoenix College Photography Collection consists of 190 photographs and dates back five decades or so. The Collection contains works by a number of notable 20th century photographers as well as pieces from our very own alumni! Since 1998, 87 pieces from the collection have been displayed on a rotating basis on the main and second floors of the library. The intention behind this collection is to educate, enlighten and increase student appreciation of fine art. We welcome everyone to visit the library during normal library hours to view our unique collection.

Martin Luther King, Jr. We hope you were able to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. last week, whether through campus events or events happening in our broader community. Stop by the library throughout the month of January to peruse and check out items from our display.

Fitness/Wellness Center Open House We stand by the adage that reading is a workout for your brain - but physical exercise also boosts your brain power! [Here's some evidence for the latter.] So we're helping our friends in the PC Fitness Center (South Gym) to promote their free open house Jan. 22-26, available for all students, MCCCD employees, and community members.

Reserve your library instruction sessionEvery year hundreds of research projects tragically fall victim to a common enemy: poor sources. Don’t let this happen to your students! Schedule a library instruction session today and help students develop sound research habits early. From planning a search strategy to evaluating web sources to effectively utilizing library resources, a library instruction session will get your students prepared to tackle nearly every aspect of their research projects. For additional ideas about how to incorporate information literacy skills into your assignments, please contact Library Instruction Coordinator Ben Aloe.

Request media title purchases to use in the classroomAre you planning to use media in your classroom this semester? The good news is, you still have time! The best news is, PC Library has funds to support your use of media in the classroom or online! If there are titles you would be interested in using, please contact our eResource Librarian Mercedes Miramontes. She can work with you to get materials needed for this semester. You can also fill out a Library Media Request Form to request titles purchases in DVD or streaming video format.

Students still waiting on textbooks to come in? We can help! The first assignment is due and Amazon still hasn’t shipped the textbook! What is a student to do? Come to the rescue by placing course textbooks and other material on reserve at the library. Placing material on course reserves provides convenient and equitable access for students throughout the semester. While we encourage students to commit to their studies by purchasing course materials, we also know that life happens and can get expensive. Please print/complete the Course Reserves Request Form to bring to the library along with your course materials to be placed on reserve. Items will be available for student use within 24-48 hours of submission. Visit our website for more information.

Mother's Room available in the library In an effort to better serve our students’ needs--and to avoid the public-relations nightmare of a baby picket line--did you know the library has a lactation room? This private room is tucked in a quiet corner on the second floor of the library in room L204. It is available for priority use by students and staff alike. Community borrowers may also be accommodated based on availability. Reserving this space is easy: simply stop by the library main desk to check out the key. Please remember to bring a valid photo ID with you (Cub Card, Employee ID, or community borrower card). Visit our Lactation Room Guidelines for more information.
