Library storytimes in May include practice in early learning skills that will help your child when they enter school. . . things like working with numbers, sounds, science concepts, early writing, and more. But these concepts are embedded in great read-aloud picture books, songs and movement, and lots of art and craft activities, so they are entertaining and fun!
Kids Book Club
Do you know a kid who likes to read? Students ages 8 and up are always invited to our Kids Book Club on Thursday afternoons. . . .with snacks! This month we are reading Amina’s Voice by Hena Khan, a new novel that brings to life the joys and challenges of a young Pakistani American and highlights the ways in which one girl's voice can help bring a diverse community together. Coming in June: Loser’s Club by Andrew Clements.
Join us at the Library for a Migratory Bird Festival! This year marks the centennial of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the most powerful and important bird protection law ever passed. In honor of this milestone, nature lovers around the world are joining forces to celebrate the “Year of the Bird” and commit to protecting birds today and for the next hundred years. From 10:00-11:00 AM, you can “Build-a-Bird” with artist Sharon Glick, or make origami birds with Michael Palmer from 10:00 AM -2:00 PM. Learn more about the 100-year old Migratory Bird Treaty Act, enjoy live music all day, meet live raptors, dress up like your favorite bird and go on a Migration March, play the Great Migration Challenge on the lawn, learn how to use binoculars and join a bird-watching walk, and more.
