The Friends are phasing out the use of new plastic bags at our Used Book Sales. We will continue to reuse cloth, paper and plastic bags, as long as we have them available. Please remember to bring a sturdy bag to carry your books home!

Moderated by Frankie Wilmer, Professor and department head of Political Science at MSU with guest speakers Will Dobson, Chief International Editor at National Public Radio, Les AuCoin, Former journalist, professor of government, and nine-term U.S. congressman from Oregon, and Dr. Jeff Reed, Technology executive.

Storytimes Every Wednesday 10:15 & 11:15 AM Our Little Ones Storytime on Wednesday, October 3 will highlight fun books and activities about “Going to the Dentist.” Join some of our local dental professionals to help ease the transition to visiting the dentist. On Wednesday, October 31, Little Ones Storytime will host a Preschool Halloween Party. Kids can wear costumes, make Halloween crafts and decorations, and listen to just slightly scary Halloween books. Storytime is for ages 2-5 every Wednesday at 10:15 and again at 11:15 in the Children’s Room.

Friday, October 19 12:00 PM The Born Learning Trail is a series of 10 interactive signs that offer fun, active learning activities for young children and their families. It helps parents, caregivers and communities create quality engagement opportunities when out on a stroll around the Library grounds. We will be making small bags of trail mix outside during this kick-off celebration to our newest outdoor play opportunity! Families with young children are invited to join us in the Children’s Room to kick off a new project with the Bozeman Public Library, Greater Gallatin United Way, and Gallatin Early Childhood Community Council. Thursday, October 18 4:00-5:00 PM The Kids Book Club meets this month in the Student Corner to talk about The Jumbies by Tracey Baptiste. Tracey is one of our featured authors for our Children’s Festival of the Book coming up on November 10. She grew up in Trinidad, is a former elementary school teacher, and is on the faculty at Lesley University’s Creative Writing MFA program. In addition to The Jumbies and The Rise of the Jumbies, she has written the new YA novel Minecraft: The Crash, and several nonfiction titles. All kids ages 8 and up welcome to join us to discuss books and have snacks. Call 582-2404 for more information.

Tuesday, October 16 6:30 PM Pajama Storytime will be held on Tuesday, October 16 this month for preschoolers and their families starting at 6:30pm in the Children’s Room. Kids can wear their pajamas, enjoy favorite read-alouds and a bedtime snack, and blow bubbles during this short evening program. No registration necessary; all families welcome!

Friday, October 9 4:00 - 5:15 PM Teen Advisory Group (TAG) will have its monthly meeting on Friday, Oct. 19th from 4:00 – 5:15 pm. If you’re a teen ages 14 and up, we want your ideas for ways to improve the Library, brainstorm program ideas, or just hang out and have some snacks! Participation in TAG can also go towards community service hours. Stop on by and see what we’re planning!

Thursday, October 25 4:00 - 6:00 PM Join us on Thursday Oct. 25th from 4:00-6:00 pm for pumpkin decorating (painting and googly eyes, oh my!) while watching “The Addams Family” (1991, PG13). Pumpkins provided (medium to small) but feel free to bring your own pumpkin to paint, glue, glitter, and make spookily fabulous! Grades 6 and up and sign-up required.

Join the Friendliest Book Club in Montana! Our October Selection is Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. Little Fires Everywhere is not a story about late Montana summers. It is the story of families and rules and rule-breakers in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Copies of this book are available to borrow at the Library, as well as the unabridged audio version on CD or Playaway. This book club meets in the upstairs board room.

Monday October 29 6:00 -8:00 PM We are partnering with the Bozeman Film Celebration to feature some of the award-winning films that were featured at the BZN Film Festival last summer. This will be an extra-special evening, as award-winning filmmaker, Helena-native and MSU-grad, Colter Olmstead will be speaking about the making of his film, "Drawback," which took home the BZN Best Documentary Short.
