On Monday, May 4, 2020, Tacoma Public Library announced the temporary layoffs of 85 staff members. This furlough affected our Extreme Reader team and required us to bring in some different staff members to keep everything running smoothly. Well, we have returned and are ready to jump back into the fray!
We are extremely thankful for the extreme effort our extremely helpful coworkers put in during our extremely sad absence and are extremely happy to be back with all of you Extreme Readers!
2019 Prize Pick Up and 2020 Reporting
We still have your 2019 prizes.
The library's closure due to COVID-19 impacted many people's ability to pick up their 2019 prizes. Rest assured that we still have them. At this time, we don't have an approved plan in place to distribute prizes but we are diligently working on it and will send an update soon.
2020 Reading Log Reporting
Unfortunately, due to the library's closure, the first day to complete the 2020 challenge has been postponed indefinitely. We know everyone has been anxiously awaiting an update on when and how reading log completion will be handled.
Your Extreme Reader team is working hard to find a solution that works while keeping everyone safe. An update will be sent out as soon as details are finalized.
TPL To Go
Holds Pickup Service
TPL To Go holds pickup is now available at all libraries.
You will receive an email notification with instructions when your holds are ready. Please check your junk mail folder. The library recently changed email systems, and your messages may be mistakenly flagged as spam.
When you arrive at the library, please call the phone number posted outside the building to speak with a staff member about picking up your holds. If you do not have a phone and have holds to pick up, please approach the front doors of the library and be prepared to present your library card or ID or hold notice to staff.
A library staff member will gather your holds, place them in a bag, and motion for you to socially distance yourself so they can safely place them on the table outside the doors for you to retrieve.
If you are picking up holds on behalf of someone else, please have their library card number ready to present to library staff.
We are actively filling a backlog of more than 55,000 hold requests
Holds are filled a variety of ways! You may receive your holds in multiple shipments, and you may receive them in an order different than the order they were requested
Please help us provide faster service by logging into your account online or through the app and canceling holds that are no longer of interest. Your PIN number may be the last four of your phone number.
