Lake Middle School students showed out for our “Great Gingerbread Race”! Over the course of about four weeks, the three library rotation groups earned almost 700 AR points with the fifth graders edging out sixth grade by about 30 points. Thanks to CMRLS and Lake Public Library, they were rewarded with individual gingerbread house kits. They had such fun putting these together!
You don’t have to enter a race to get a make and take kit. Just stop by your local library. In January we will have rock painting kits.
Start 2021 with kindness by stopping by the library in January for an "act of kindness" to pay forward.
We are enjoying our new copy machine. It helps to serve our patrons in a much quicker way!
The winner of our Peppermint Guessing Game was Anthony Gray. There were 63 peppermints in the jar and Mr. Gray guessed 65.
We have several new books that have come in for Adults and Children. Make sure to stop by and find a book to read!
Books of the month:
- Adult Fiction – The New Years Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini
- Young Adult – Channel Kindness: Stories of Kindness and Community by Lady Gaga
- Juvenile Fiction for boys – Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wrecking Ball by Jeff Kinney
- Juvenile Fiction for girls – Matilda by Roald Dahl
- Easy Reader – The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and has a safe and Happy New Year!
The staff at the Mendenhall Pubic Library would like to invite you to come inside for a special treat! We have a magnificent Barbie™ Collection on display provided by Patron Ashley Bradley. This display will remain at the library through the month of January for patrons to enjoy! If anyone would like to display a special collection of items they have, please contact Rhoda Benton, Branch Manager.
Mendenhall Staff would also like to express our thanks to those special patrons who dropped off special treats of cookies, homemade bread, and nuts for us at the library during the Christmas holidays! We enjoyed our treats, of course, but most of all, we enjoy our patrons and appreciate their thoughtfulness!
Emmy Byrd, Part Time Youth Services Librarian at the Flowood Library, had a going away party on November 30, 2020. She will be missed.
Just because Christmas is over doesn't mean all of the excitement is gone. At the Morton Library, we are still reading, making crafts, and having contests! We have fun crafts to be picked up for our take-home crafts this month.
We are also having another fun contest! This one will show all of your creative talents! It's making a snowman! The only rules are that it can't contain anything that will go bad or melt and it needs to be no taller than 24 inches high. Bring your snowman to the library no later than Jan 17th. Other than that let your imaginations run wild and see who can create the best snowman. The winner will be picked that afternoon. A small prize will be given. So let the contest begin and may the best snowman win!
