On Saturday, September 7th, Attleboro’s 1ABC committee will start distributing FREE copies of this year’s Big Read title by Nathaniel Philbrick. The launch celebration will be held at the Balfour Riverwalk, next to the library. There will be fun for all ages, including a life size inflatable whale, music by Marc Bernier, a screening of the History Channel’s documentary on The Essex, an exhibit of models by the Marine Modelers Club of New England, and more! Additional events happening in September include: - Sailing Towards My Father - Thursday, 9/12 @ 7pm
- Enormity Exhibition Opening – Saturday, 9/14 @ 2pm at the Attleboro Arts Museum
- Whale Tales Storytime – Friday, 9/20 @ 3pm
- A Brief History of New England Whaling with James Russell – Saturday, 9/21 @ 1pm at the Attleboro Area Industrial Museum

Budding Bookworms Wednesdays, starting 9/25, 3-3:30pm For kids ages 3-5 years & their adultA love of reading is one of the most important gifts you can give your child. Early literacy skills help prepare children for school success. Join us each week for for stories, songs & an activity. Siblings welcome. Registration required for each week.

Parent/Child Book Group Monday, September 23 at 6:30pm For kids in grades 2 - 4 & an adult Great books, fun discussion and snacks! This group meets once a month for a book discussion at the library. Each month is a different book & you can pick up a copy of the book in the Children's Room. September's title is Matilda by Roald Dahl. Register HERE.

Learn about Weather & Climate Change Saturday, September 28, 2:30pm For ages 5 and up, with an adult. Earth has been getting warmer—and fast! Scientists have discovered that humans are causing this warming. How do they know that? What are we doing? How could warming happen so fast? Join us for this hands-on program exploring the effects of climate change and what we can do to stop it. Register HERE.

Photography Club Thursday, Sept. 12 @ 6pm For kids in grades 5-12 who love taking pictures and want to improve their skills. Youth are encouraged to bring their own device to use (cell phone camera, digital camera etc) and/or take turns using the photography club's DSLR camera. Each session participants will learn new skills, practice and discuss photography with others!

High Tech Club Wednesday, Sept. 18 @ 6pm Youth in grades 5-12 are welcome to join us for the High Tech Club! During the meetings participants will practice coding, programming, and other tech skills using robots, computer kits, iPads and more. Please note that the program does not include formal instruction. Tech toys are available for participants to play with and learn. Call or stop by to register.

Yarn Lovers Support Group Monday, September 9 & 16 at 9:30am Are you a crafty person in search of like-minded crafty folks? Join the Yarn Lovers Support Group on select Monday mornings for crafting, chatting, and show and tell. Sessions are drop-in, so no need to register.

National Voter Registration Day Tuesday, September 24, 2-4pmThe APL will host our 2nd Annual National Voter Registration Day 2019 Event as part of a massive 50-state effort to register thousands of voters! The goal is to increase participation by encouraging Americans to register early enough to allow them to vote on election day on Tuesday, November 5. As a nonpartisan “holiday” for democracy, National Voter Registration Day counts on 1000s of partners & volunteers across the political spectrum. Started in 2012, NVRD is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on their most basic right – the right to vote. Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum PassWhen Isabella Stewart Gardner created her museum she wanted it to be “for the education and enjoyment of the public forever.” The result includes not just art but also flowers and plants, textiles, furniture, and architecture. The library pass admits up to 4 people for $5 per person. Children under 18 are free. Closed Tuesdays and some holidays. The Museum is open 11am-5pm, and 11am-9pm on Thursdays. Reserve the pass online or by calling the library.

Library of Things The puzzle and board game collections have increased through patrons’ generous donations, and soon we’ll be lending WiFi hot spots and cake pans! If you have novelty cake pans you’re not using at home, please consider donating them to the library. Gift cards for purchasing these items are also appreciated!

Supporting the Friends Supports the Library! Founded in 1983, the Friends of the Attleboro Public Library is a community organization dedicated to supporting and fundraising for the Attleboro Public Library. Through a program of volunteer, promotional and fundraising activities, the Friends support and promote the Attleboro Public Library and finance purchases not covered by government funds.
