Book Clubs for Kids
Book Buds Teen/Tween Book Club
The next meeting is Friday, November 6, 4:00 PM
Book Buds Book Club is for readers aged 8 and above which will meet on the FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH FROM 4 PM-4:45 PM. When we have enough registrants, we can divide the group back into the Tween group (ages 8-11) and the Teen group (ages 12 and up). Book Buds will meet outdoors in the Little Hundred Acre Woods, weather permitting, and if there are at least 3 registrants. Social distanced seating will be set up. Bring your own towel/blanket/chair if you'd like. Masks will be required when social distancing can not occur. A small treat will be provided but please bring your own drink! When weather DOES NOT permit, we will meet at the First Congregational Church. The church will let us know which room is available. Masks must be worn within church rooms.
The November book options for discussion are:
Teen Group:The Lunar Chronicles, Book 1, Cinder, by Marissa Meyer.
Tween group: Continue with sequels in the Pacy Lin series (Grace Lin), or the Pegasus series (Kate O'Hearn).
As always, a school required book or personal recommendation is also OK!

Book Buds Jr. is a Children's Book Club for early readers and will meet on the FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH FROM 11 AM-11:45 AM! Children should bring a favorite book they would like to share. Be ready to talk about your favorite part of the story, and read a page (or two!) aloud!
WEATHER PERMITTING, AND IF THERE ARE AT LEAST 3 REGISTRANTS, we will meet outdoors on the Library Grounds. We must sit at least 6 feet apart. Mats will be provided, but feel free to bring your own towel/blanket/beach chair! Please bring a mask for instances when social distancing can not occur. When weather does not permit an outdoor meeting, we will meet at the First Congregational Church. The church will let us know which room is available to us that day. Masks must be worn within the church. PARENTS must stay with their children to ensure social distancing. A small treat will be provided but please bring your own drink.
DIY Kits will be taking a break for the holidays. Watch this space for more kits to come in the new year.
Fall Storytimes end Nov. 17.
Fall Storytime started Tuesday, Oct. 6 and will end Thursday, Nov. 17. Registration for the Winter Session will open on our event calendar in mid December. The Winter session most likely will begin in January. The Winter schedule should be the same as the Fall schedule, with flexibility to add back the group for ages 2-3 if there is enough interest. The Fall schedule is:
Tuesdays, 10:30 AM, Baby and Toddler Story Time, for ages 9-24 months.
Wednesdays, 10:30 AM, Preschool Storytime for ages 3-5.
Thursdays, 1:30 PM, Preschool Storytime for ages 3-5.
At this time, the format of Winter storytime is TBD. If in person classes can not be offered, the classes will be virtual via Zoom. Please contact Ms. Lisa if you have any questions.

Museum Pass Updates
Local museums are starting to reopen, and a few are once again accepting library passes. Those museums are:
The MA State Parks pass - the State Parks no longer check for parking. The pass is not needed to visit any State Parks until next summer.
Buttonwood Park Zoo - Call us to reserve and check out the pass. Each pass has a code to use when booking your tickets online. Bring the pass and a printout of your ticket to the Zoo.
The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston - call us to get a special code to enter when booking your tickets online.
The New Bedford Whaling Museum - check out the pass, take it to the museum for the discount.
Plumb Library Knitters and Crocheters
If you're interested in participating in a knitters/crocheters meetup, send your email address to the Library Director, groberts@sailsinc.org. Thanks to the First Congregational Church of Rochester, we will be meeting in their Vestry Building on Mondays from 6:00 - 7:30 PM starting Monday, November 2. The Vestry is the building between the church and Town Hall. Masks are required, and there is a 10 person limit. A free-will donation will be collected to help defray the cost of heating and electricity.

Online Resources
Universal Class: Teens and Adults can take a free online class with Universal Class. Choose from over 500 online classes.Take classes on topics such as Astronomy, Marine Biology, American Civil War, World History, Essay Writing, and 500 more. Participants interact by email with a real teacher, and can get a certificate upon finishing the class. Be sure your library card starts with 23548.
Transparent Language:If you have younger kids at home, Transparent Language offers Kidspeak in French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Chinese. Use your library card to set up an account if the first five digits are 23548. If your High School or Junior High School student is studying a language, they can practice using the regular language lessons, which include French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin. They can have their own accounts with their own library cards.
Driving Tests: Teens working toward their Learner's Permit can practice using the Free Practice Permit Tests.
The Statewide Databases: search hundreds of databases, plus Encyclopedia Britannica and the Boston Globe. Print out full articles or abstracts.
World Book: World Book Online. Includes Kids, Student, Advanced, and Discover. Information, activities, and much more.

CreativeBug: CreativeBug has craft classes, patterns, and inspiration for all levels and abilities. Crafts include knitting, quilting, journaling, kids crafts and more. Available to Rochester-based library cards starting with 23548.

Tumblebooks: Tumblebooks is back! Ebooks for ekids! TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of e-books for children. They are a great way to encourage tech-savvy kids to enjoy reading!
Book Group News
The next virtual book group meeting will take place on Thursday, November 5 at 6:30 PM. The book will be "Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland", by Patrick Radden Keefe.
