Build LEGO creations to a theme! Grades Pre-K to 5 (ages 5+) are welcome to come and build with the library LEGOs. Each month has a challenge in which the builders can participate, but we encourage thinking outside of the box.

Reading Recommendations
Popular in Pembroke
Some of our most requested books in July.

Summer of '69: During the tumultuous summer of 1969, the children of the Levin family, looking forward to spending the summer at their grandmother's historic Nantucket home, find their lives upended by troubling family secrets.

    Staff Pick

This month's pick comes with very high praise from two of our staff members, Carly and Stephanie. Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid tells the story of the biggest (fictional) rock band of the late 60s to mid-70s and the crazy lives (sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll!) they lived. One of the things that makes this book so fun and compelling is that it's written in the style of a tell-all oral history featuring interviews with members of the band, their families, and other people in the music and entertainment industries. This really makes it feel like you're reading a true history instead of a novel; Stephanie says: "I kept forgetting these weren't real people! I became so invested in their lives. I wished I could go on YouTube and watch videos of the performances they were describing." Try the audiobook for a star-studded cast including Jennifer Beals, Benjamin Bratt, Judy Greer, and Pablo Schreiber.

    Meet Our Magazines

Have you been enjoying our Universe of Stories theme over the summer? To continue the cosmic literary adventure, journey to our magazine section and check out a copy of Astronomy, a monthly periodical on a mission to bring the cosmos to your living room. Each issue contains stunning color photography, expert scientific reporting, tips for at-home sky observation, telescope reviews, and complete coverage every month of the most observable events in the sky.

While you’re here, why not check out our glow-in-the-dark constellation lacing kit in the Children’s room? Or you can see if our new telescope (part of our Library of Things) is available to bring home for your family to explore the summer night sky. Be sure to mark your calendar for our fourth annual Summer Reading Fest on August 22nd, and join us in celebrating another summer of reading adventures here at Pembroke Public Library!
