Vanessa Brantley-Newton Vanessa Brantley-Newton is a children's book author and illustrator of more than two dozen children's books, including Grandma's Purse, Nesting Dolls, Let Freedom Sing, and Mary Had a Little Glam. An artist swathed in retro chic, she loves all things vintage - especially books and clothes - and it shines through in her designs. Vanessa learned the importance of acceptance and empowerment in shaping a young person's life, and as an illustrator, she includes children of all ethnic backgrounds in her stories and artwork. She wants all children to see their unique experiences reflected in the books they read, so they can feel the same sense of empowerment and recognition she experienced reading Ezra Jack Keats' Snowy Day as a young reader. You can meet Vanessa and pick up copies of her books at the Shreve Memorial Library Children's Book Festival on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. See you there!
