Attention book lovers! The Shreve Memorial Library Friend's Pop-Up Book Sale is this Saturday at the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch. At the sale, you'll be able to purchase used books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and more. Prices for the sale range from $0.75 to $2.50. If you are not a member of the Shreve Memorial Library Friends, you can sign up at the sale by paying the annual membership dues of $5. While you are at the sale, enjoy a special live performance by Vela Nora, a special music and art collaboration from Caitlin Lindsay and Leigh Rose. We hope to see you there!

This month, we are inviting you to discover your inner artist at painting programs for all ages at SML branches. Classes include instruction in acrylic, string and chalk painting as well as art therapy. Do you yearn for old movies? Do you love vintage footage from years gone by? If so, be sure to join the Main Branch each Thursday evening for " Reel Time Story Time." Every Thursday, the Main Branch will be screening vintage projector movies from the library's stash. Movie screenings take place each Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Youth Services Area located on the second floor.

Join the Mooretown Branch Saturday, August 25 for Strategies for Successful Home Ownership. The seminar will cover the buying process, loan programs, credit repair, working with a realtor, home insurance, inspections, warranty, title insurance and more. Come learn from Realtor Ann Willis and prepare to buy your first home. The seminar is free and open to the public.

As students in Caddo Parish return to school on Monday, August 13, SML will once again offer an after-school feeding and enrichment program in partnership with the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana at select Shreve Memorial Library locations. The program is open to students and children up to age 18 and includes a healthy after-school meal and activities in science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) concepts as well as life skills training and reading. Beginning Monday, August 13, students can visit the Wallette and North Caddo Branches from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to participate in the program. Starting October 1, the program will also be offered at the Gilliam Branch (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.), Higginbotham-Bryson Branch (Tuesday through Thursday 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and at the Mooringsport Branch (Monday through Friday 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.). The after-school feeding and enrichment program will continue at these branches through the end of the school year. |
Each year, SML's One Book One Parish campaign attempts to unite Caddo Parish by promoting one book title throughout the library's 21 branches. This year, we're asking you to help us decide which book will be our One Book One Parish title, and today is the last day to cast your vote! The choices for this year's One Book One Parish title are: Be sure to cast your vote at any SML branch or click here to vote online. With three great titles to choose from, you can't go wrong! The winning title will be announced once all votes are tabulated and programming for One Book One Parish will take place throughout the month of October.

SML offers numerous online and digital resources to patrons to assist with educational needs through library's E-Branch. Now that school is back in session, perhaps one of the most useful resources for students is Homework Louisiana. Homework Louisiana offers free one-on-one tutoring for students of all ages, from kindergarten to college. Live tutors are available Sunday through Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until midnight. Students can get assistance with math, science, language arts, test prep, and writing assignments. There is also help available for adults through the Adult Education Career Center Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to midnight. Students can access one-on-one help through the website www.homeworkla.org or by downloading the Tutor.com to go app. Get started today and be sure to check out all of the useful digital resources available through the E-Branch to help you make the grade this school year!
