This week, we are celebrating Teen Read Week - a national literacy initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) to encourage teens to think and read outside of the box. This year's theme is, "It's Written in the Stars," and invites teens to seek out fantasy, science fiction and other out-of-this-world reads. This week, teens are invited to visit Shreve Memorial Library and take part in a variety of Teen Read Week events such as a Teen Wednesday: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Book Discussion at the North Shreveport Branch, far-out galaxy-inspired crafts at the North Caddo Branch, or get caught reading at Just 4 Teens Thrilling Thursday at the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch. Whatever your plans, be sure to encourage yourself, your friends, and the many teens in your life to read and take advantage of the cool, free reading materials available at the library.

Children of all ages are invited to discover a world of adventure and set sail on the high seas as we bring several beloved children's books to life. At Step Into a Book: Pirate Story Time, children will not only hear daring tales featuring pirates, treasure and adventure, they will also get to become a part of the story. The Pirate Story Time will feature pirate-themed stories, pirate songs, lessons in pirate lingo, and crafts. The program is designed for children under the age of 10, but all are welcome to attend.
