by Charlie Jane Anders Tina has always known her destiny is outside the norm-after all, she is the human clone of the most brilliant alien commander in all the galaxies (even if the rest of the world is still deciding whether aliens exist). But she is tired of waiting for her life to begin. And then it does-and maybe Tina should have been more prepared.

by Art Spiegelman Maus is a haunting tale within a tale. Vladek's harrowing story of survival is woven into the author's account of his tortured relationship with his aging father. Against the backdrop of guilt brought by survival, they stage a normal life of small arguments and unhappy visits. Recent attempts to ban Maus from McMinn County Board of Education in Tennessee, resulted in action and advocacy from a California bookstore. - Source: Los Angeles Times

by Andrea Wang Driving through Ohio in an old Pontiac, a young girl's parents stop suddenly when they spot watercress growing wild in a ditch by the side of the road. Grabbing an old paper bag and some rusty scissors, the whole family wades into the muck to collect as much of the muddy, snail covered watercress as they can. Watercress was named 2022 Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature Picture Book winner by Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association. See additional award winners honored at Youth Media Awards.
