Sewing Tuesday, October 30, 4:30 pm or 6:00 pm Multi-holiday Reversible Table Runner (Fairmont): Learn to sew using a sewing machine. We will be using sewing machines to make reversible table runners, just in time for the holiday season! Suitable for those age 10 and older. Family Fun Halloween Event Break out your lightsabers, Jedi robes, and Stormtrooper helmets for an intergalactic party that will be out of this world! It’s that time again! Once again the library welcomes you through our doors after the library has closed for the day for an evening of Halloween fun. The event will take place on Friday, October 26, at 6:15 pm. Carnival style games and creepy crafts await you. The Haunted Library area will be open for those brave enough to go through our own special version of a (not so scary) Haunted House. Wear your best costumes for the costume contest. Spooky scary skeletons are warming up for their dance number in a puppet show full of magic, monsters, witches and more. Join us for another wonderful Halloween event at the Marion County Public Library, full of spooktacular surprises!

Ghostly Tales For those of you looking for an evening of goosebumps and raised hair, join us at 5:30 pm on October 23 for “Ghostly Tales with Jo Ann Dadisman.” Ms. Dadisman is the same storyteller who brought Appalachian folk tales to the county’s summer reading classes this year, and now she’s back to serve up some local spine-tingling ghost stories to set the mood for Halloween. This event is free and open to the public, no sign-up required.

Fall into Children's Programs During October our Toddler Time and Story Hour children will enjoy stories and activities featuring the themes of “Leaves, Leaves, Leaves,” “We Love Camping,” “Spookley the Pumpkin,” and “Harvests and Hayrides.” During the Spookley sessions, we encourage participants to come dressed in their favorite costumes and enjoy trick-or-treating with the library staff.

Helping Out The library will once again be sponsoring the Mitten Tree Drive beginning October 5. We will be collecting various items of children’s winter clothing (underwear, mittens, gloves, scarves, hats, earmuffs, etc.) to be donated to Fairview Elementary. Toddler Time & Story Time Miss Janet and Miss Carol have brewed up a mess of dogs, squirrels, and party fun for this month! Learning to read begins before children start school. From the time they are infants, children learn language and other important skills that will help them learn to read. Developing early literacy skills makes it easier for children to learn to read once they begin school. Fall sessions for Toddler Time a program for children up to 3 years of age meets on Tuesdays at 10:30 am, and Story Time a program for children 2-5 years of age meets on Wednesdays at 10:30. WV Ghosts From the hills and hollows of the mountains come tales strange, mysterious and even historic to chill your bones and tingle your spine. West Virginia storyteller, ballad singer, and author Granny Sue shares stories and songs of haunted places, unquiet graves, and unexplained events. October 22, at 5:30 pm. Presentation intended for a family audience with children 8 years of age and up. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume. Prizes will be provided by Friends of the Mannington Library.
