Haunted LibraryFriday, October 18: 7 pm - 9:30 pm When the lights go down and the library doors are locked, all isn’t as quiet as one may think. Whispers in the darkness, unexplained sights and sounds may appear. On October 18th the Marion County Public Library is opening their doors for a unique Halloween event experience. One night only- HAUNTED LIBRARY! You can register for a time slot to skip the rush! When the clock strikes midnight at October 1, you’ll be able to register for a “fast pass” style ticket for this spooky event! We will still accept walk ins at the door.

Family Fun HalloweenIt’s that spooky time of year! The Marion County Public Library's annual Halloween event is so popular that we’ve had to expand! This year we are working with Main Street Fairmont to bring you a bigger, better Family Fun Event!
Starting October 25 at 5 pm the library AND Monroe Street will become a fun festival of activities! United Way of Marion and Taylor Counties will be joining us with Trunk or Treat! There will be games, activities, entertainment, treats and more! Fairmont State University Academy for the Arts will have featured performances. The library will host the annual ‘Halloweenified’ puppet show. This year’s show will feature two scheduled times, allowing you to choose what time you can attend. This will allow all the games and festivities to continue. The kid friendly Haunted house will also be in the library. Costumes are encouraged for a traditional costume contest! Join us for some Halloween fun! Why Modern Vampire Stories Suck Us In Saturday, October 12: 12 pm - 1 pm Have you ever wondered about the recent fascination with vampires? Amy Williams Wilson did more than just wonder. She researched and then wrote her discoveries in a book called The Bite, the Breast and the Blood. Come hear her engaging presentation. What she says may surprise you!

Explorations+ 1 pm - 3 pm This Open House is the first of ten weekly sessions that will offer a variety of supplemental activities for homeschooling families in areas such as: storytelling, language, art, and STEM. These sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 1-2 pm for children in grades K-4 and from 2-3 pm for grades 5+. Those interested in participating are invited to come see what is being planned and register.

Teen Crafternoon Monday, October 28, 4:30 pm Ages 10+. Come decorate your own tote bag while we watch Tim Burton’s 1993 classic, The Nightmare Before Christmas (rated PG). If Books Could Kill... We also have some fun in store for adults this month. From October 1st through October 30th, you’re invited to take our “If Books Could Kill…” challenge. Match a well-known passage from a popular ghost/horror story with the book from which it was taken and receive a Halloween treat bag just for playing. The winning entries will go into a drawing for a $25 restaurant gift card with the lucky winner being chosen at random on October 31st.

Trivia Contest Our monthly trivia contest on October 31st, “What Do You Know about That,” is the “Rocktober Edition.” See how many popular rock songs you can match to their artists and well-known lead singers to their bands. Patrons ages 14-up are eligible to participate, and the participant with the most correct answers wins a prize!

Giving Back If you’d like to donate to those in need in our community, the library will once again be sponsoring the Mitten Tree Drive beginning October 7. We will be collecting various items of children’s winter clothing (underwear, mittens, gloves, scarves, hats, earmuffs, etc.) to be donated to Fairview Elementary. Every donation matters, and we thank you in advance for your support!

Blackshere Pizza Party It’s Pizza Party Time! We received a lot of positive feedback from students and parents, so we’re offering the “pizza parties” once again. The staff of the Mannington Public Library wishes to celebrate Blackshere’s third grade class during the month of October. Any time a teacher or student visits the library and checks out library materials, we will add one pizza topping for each item checked-out to our large pizza pie on our bulletin board. The homeroom that loads up our pizza with the most toppings will receive a pizza party and a story provided by the Mannington Public Library. WEEKLY CONTEST!
