First Friday Join us in August for our first "Sundae Night" First Friday! This event will take place on Monroe Street. This event is all about the kids, so bring them down for a night of fun. There will be plenty of activities, including: ice cream, FSU Academy for the Arts, games, scavenger hunt, a "drive in" movie, food trucks, face painting, and more! Friday, August 3: 6 pm –8 pm.

National Night Out On the night of Tuesday, August 7, 2018, citizens of Fairmont are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities worldwide for our National Night Out crime and drug prevention event from 6-9 P.M. at Veteran's Square Plaza.
Fairmont PD will be hosting the community event so Fairmont residents, business owners, and guests can get to know each other better as we celebrate fun events and promote public safety. Free food, informational materials, and children's activities is just some of what you'll find there!

Save, Sip, Stories, and Shred Our newest Bookmobile stop, the Gateway Connector branch of the Fairmont Federal Credit Union, is hosting this event, featuring the Bookmobile, the Sip Station, and a shredding truck from Resolute Forest Products! We’ll be there from 10 am—12 pm.

Arts for Kids Day Join us at Palatine Park on Saturday, August 12 from 2 pm—5 pm for Arts for Kids Day, part of Fairmont Arts Week! Local businesses and organizations will have free art projects that kids can make! Food vendors will also be set up.

Eddie Spaghetti Art Exhibit Join us at the Marion County Public Library now through the end of August for an exhibit by WV Artist Eddie Spaghetti! Eddie Spaghetti uses woodcut printmaking (carving a slab of wood, then inking the surface) on homemade paper to create his intricate works of art! This exhibit is part of Fairmont Arts week! STEM: Leaning Tower of Pasta Students in grades 1-8 are invited to take the challenge...the marshmallow challenge! In Leaning Tower of Pasta, participants will use marshmallows and pasta to see who can create the tallest tower! It is brought to you by WVU Marion County Extension Service’s 4-H Youth Development Department on Monday, August 6 at 2 pm. If You Give a Child a Cookie It’s heeerrreee… To kick off registration for the fall semester of children’s programming, we are once again presenting our “Cookies, Bookies, and Milk” program where we provide games, crafts, stories, and cookies and milk to our preschool aged patrons who are signing up for the fall edition of “Storytime.” Space is limited for this program so participants must register with the library in order to attend. This year, you can choose either the 11 am session or the 1:30 pm session, both held on August 28. During this time, parents can register children ages 12-24 months for “Toddler Time” and children ages 3-5 years for “Story Hour.” These classes are available on a limited first come, first served basis so call or stop by the library for more details. Registration will continue until September 7 or until classes are filled.

Cook-a-Book Also being offered this month is the summer installment of “Cook-a-Book.” We’re featuring a giant word search, design-your-own jigsaw puzzle, and tanagram snack centered around the theme, “This Is a Real Puzzler,” on August 7. This program is available to children ages 6-12, and registration is required for either the 11 am or 2 pm sessions (click on a time to register).

Toddler Time and Story Time Registration Help your child get ready to read. Learning to read begins before children start school. From the time they are infants, children learn language and other important skills that will help them learn to read.Developing early literacy skills makes it easier for children to learn to read once they begin school. Fall sessions set to begin in September: “Toddler Time”, a program for children up to 3 years of age that meets on Tuesdays at 10:30 am, and “Story Time”, a program for children 2-5 years of age that meets on Wednesdays at 10:30 am.
