Summer Reading returns June 1st! Prepare for a “wild” summer with the Marion County Public Library System! More information about events will be arriving soon, but individuals and families can now register at mcpls.bookpoints.org We plan to offer both in-person (socially distant) and virtual events this summer, so keep an eye for more details! Friends of the Library Book Sales Fairmont: The Book Cave is Open! The Friends of the Marion County Public Library (Fairmont) is taking walk-ins to browse the book sale room. The book sale room is open Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10 am—2 pm on a first come first serve basis. Fairview: The Fairview Public Library will offer a bi-monthly book sale. The Book Sale is open from 9:30-12:30 on Saturday, May 8 and Saturday, May 22. Mannington: The Friends of the Library Book Sale is back! The "Beyond the Book" Book Club Presents Safety and Health Disasters: A Compendium of Industrial and Moral Disasters Thursday, May 13 at 7 pm (Webex) Illness, injury and death in the workplace are realities all employees and communities face without the oversight and guidance of NIOSH, OSHA, labor unions, and whistleblowers. Even with those safeguards in place, profit can overrule safety and ethics in industrial decision making. Kim Murphy, co-founder of Benchmark Safety, Health & Environmental Services will walk us through the history of tragedies that resulted in workplace safety and health regulations and agencies.
