Banned Book Week The Marion County Public Library will be observing Banned Book Week September 18-24, 2022. In preparation for this event, the staff at the Fairmont location is creating an interactive display of frequently challenged items. To raise awareness of these titles, we are inviting our patrons to read one or more of the titles and complete a short "book report" to share as part of the display. Because you or a member of your family has participated in Teen programming at the Marion County Public Library in the past, we wanted to reach out to you directly and invite you to participate. Would you please join us in our effort? Here are the details: - The display has a wide variety of titles - picture books, all levels of fiction, non-fiction, and even some titles in audio format.
- Participants can read or listen independently or in a family setting.
- These items will be available behind the circulation desk in Fairmont beginning August 22. A "book report form" is tucked inside each display item. It lists the reason(s) the title was challenged so you have an idea what you will encounter.
- The remainder of the "book report form" is a simple graphic organizer that can be completed independently by the reader(s) or with the assistance of a scribe or helper. We ask that readers return their completed book report on or before September 12.
- September 18-30 the titles and the corresponding completed book reports will both be on display in our Fairmont location.
Thank you for your participation in library programs. We appreciate your patronage and look forward to seeing you soon at the Marion County Public Library!
