CAREER CORNER
Seeking members for Well-Being Youth Advisory Group
Pasadena Library is seeking teens and young adults (ages 13-24) to serve on a youth advisory group along with our current Teen Advisory Board, but with the special interest and focus on well-being. You can read more about the basics of well-being on the CDC website. The minimum commitment will be at least one in-person meeting per month, and at least one virtual training, but we can plan on a task-by-task basis. It is estimated to be 2-3 working meetings per month from September 2021-August 2022 (June-Aug 2022 are tentative). This is a planning and piloting team who will help our organizations develop a curriculum that will be used in future years. Some of the tasks to look forward to are:
  • developing and piloting a volunteer storytime training program
  • developing Well-Being Education Kits and at-home project kits
  • advising and selecting new items for people to checkout from the library
  • piloting and promoting a community-wide Well-Being Curriculum
If interested, email Jane Gov at jgov@cityofpasadena.net

FEATURED BOOKS
Girl on the Line by Faith Gardner
review by Giselle Carlos, age 16

Faith Gardner’s Girl on the Line is a heart-wrenching and relatable story recommended for those 14 and up.
Journey Smith is a girl with big feelings. And last year, those big feelings got a name: bipolar disorder. When Journey leaves the office of the cold-hearted psychiatrist with a new label for herself and a prescription for a bottle of large, neon-pink pills, she feels free. Her new diagnosis might make her understand herself better, but what she doesn’t expect, is for it to make her feel worse. ...
