The library will be closed all day Monday, September 2nd in observance of Labor Day.

Feeling Crafty? Calling all crafty folks! The Holiday Booktique returns this December! We will begin collecting donations of small handcrafted items to sell in the library in November. We’re looking for a variety of items that can be priced reasonably for most folks – scarves, hats, stuffed animals, jewelry, decorations for the home, etc.

Want to Help More? Do you have experience planning a fundraising event? Would you like to share your skills and talents, or do you want to learn more about event planning? Join us! The ACLA is planning to hold a major fundraiser in April 2020. We need volunteers to help with planning the event, securing corporate donations, planning additional fundraising activities to incorporate at the event, such as a silent auction, and more. Please contact Terri Palmer, volunteer@alohalibrary.org, if you are interested in learning more. We will schedule planning meetings beginning in October.

Storytime Break in September Preschool and Toddler Storytime will take a short break at the beginning of September from Monday, September 2 through Wednesday, September 11. We will resume our regularly scheduled storytime programs on Monday, September 16. See you there!

Messy Arts & Crafts Tuesday, September 3rd, from 10:30 to 11:30am For ages 0 to 6 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Let your little one’s creativity run wild with sensory arts and crafts every 1st Tuesday of the month. It’s okay to make a mess!

Nature Mobile: School of Rock(s)! Wednesday, September 4th from 3:30 to 4:30pm For all ages. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children).
Welcome back to school! For this month’s theme, the Nature Mobile is here to talk about rocks, volcanoes and geology. Visitors can use magnifying lenses to look closely at the many different kinds of rocks and earth all while learning how they are formed.

Mondays, September 9th and 23th from 5:00 to 6:00pm For ages 5 to 13 years. Need practice reading? Sign up for a session of Reading Buddies at the Aloha Community Library! Kids can improve their reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a trained therapy animal. Read with a dog on second Mondays, or with a cat on fourth Mondays. Sessions are 15 minutes each between 5:00 and 6:00 pm. Please visit the library or call us at 503-259-0185 to register.

STEM Lab: Chemical Reactions Wednesday, September 11th from 2:30 to 4:30pm For children ages 5 to 13. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Let’s explore chemistry! In this STEM Lab, we will combine commonly found household ingredients to create eruptions, foam, and more.

Pajama Storytime Tuesday, September 17th from 6:30 to 7:00pm For ages 2 and up. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Put on your favorite pajamas and join us for a cozy evening of stories, songs, and fun for the whole family!

LEGO Free Play Wednesday, September 25th from 2:30 to 4:30pm For children ages 5 to 13. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Come explore your creativity with LEGOs every 4th Wednesday of the month! Spend the afternoon creating masterpieces out of the legendary colorful building blocks. We’ll provide the LEGOs; you provide imagination!

Family Movie Thursday, September 26th from 4:00 to 6:00pm All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Grab your popcorn and join us for a family movie every 4th Thursday at the library! This month, a boy accidentally resurrects a trio of evil witches, and must figure out how to stop them before they succeed in their goal of becoming immortal.

Huecha Omeyocan Aztec Dance Saturday, September 28th from 11:00am to 12:00pm All ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Enjoy a lively and educational demonstration by Huehca Omeyocan, a local group dedicated to promoting cultural practices of the Mesoamerican peoples primarily focused on Prehispanic (Aztec) dance and music.

Toddler Storytime Mondays from 10:30 to 11:00am Toddler storytime will be on break 9/2 and 9/9. It will resume on 9/16. For ages 18 to 36 months. Toddler Storytime takes place every Monday at 10:30 am! Join us for stories, songs, rhymes, dances, and activities aimed at children between the ages of 18 and 36 months. Adults are expected to sit with children and participate.

Preschool Storytime Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:00am Preschool storytime will be on break 9/4 and 9/11. It will resume on 9/18. For ages 3 to 6 years. An interactive storytime for children and their grown-ups filled with stories, songs, rhymes, and activities geared toward getting kids ready to read. Adults are expected to sit with children and participate.

Teen Tech Lab Tuesday, September 3rd from 3:30 to 5:00pm For teens in grades 6 to 12. Whether you want to play Fortnite with your friends or try out some new tech gadgets, the Teen Tech Lab is for you! We’ll provide laptops, robots, makey makey boards, and more. Just bring yourself and come ready for some fun!

Basics of Hand Sewing Wednesday, September 11th from 5:30 to 7:30pm Get ready for a wardrobe emergency! Whether you’ve lost a button on the way to a wedding, or you want to mend your clothes instead of replacing them, you’ll have to know a little bit about sewing by hand. Come get some guided practice at hand-stitching techniques, and bring along (if you choose to) a piece of your own clothing in need of mending to try out your new skills. All other supplies provided. Getting Ready for Emergencies Wednesday, September 25th from 6:30 to 7:30pm If disaster strikes, will you be ready? Almost half of people rely on their neighbors for help in the first 72 hours after a disaster, and you and your community might be on your own for several days. Join us for this presentation by speaker Cynthia Valdivia to learn how together we can prepare – making our homes, communities, and businesses more resilient.

You bring the talent and we'll provide the tea, snacks, and quiet – not to mention a whole building full of research material and inspiration!

Monthly Matinée Friday, September 27th from 2:00 to 4:00pm Join us every fourth Friday of the month for an early afternoon matinée movie selected by our library staff! In September’s movie, a California family struggles to find one another amid the devastating effects of a destructive earthquake.

Sit n Stitch Thursdays, September 5th and 19th from 1:30 to 3:00pm Mondays, September 9th and 23rd from 6:00 to 7:30pm Bring your knitting, crochet, or other yarn project, and come join the Sit n Stitch group! Trade tips or simply enjoy the company of fellow crafters while you work on your latest creation.
