The library will be closed all day Monday, November 11th in observance of Veteran’s Day, and all day Thursday, November 28th in observance of Thanksgiving.

And a hearty thank you to volunteer Sales Coordinator Melanie Belles and her volunteers for planning and carrying out a great sale! Feeling Crafty? Calling all crafty folks! The Holiday Booktique returns this December! We will begin collecting donations of small handcrafted items to sell in our sale. We’re looking for a variety of items that can be priced reasonably for most folks – scarves, hats, stuffed animals, jewelry, decorations for the home, etc.

Fundraising Event Volunteers Needed! Do you have experience planning a fundraising event? Would you like to share your skills and talents, or do you want to learn more about event planning? Join us! The ACLA is planning to hold a major fundraiser in April 2020. We need volunteers to help with planning the event, securing corporate donations, planning additional fundraising activities to incorporate at the event, such as a silent auction, and more. Please contact Terri Palmer, volunteer@alohalibrary.org, if you are interested in learning more. We will schedule planning meetings beginning in November.

Messy Arts & Crafts Tuesday, November 5th, from 10:30 to 11:30am For ages 0 to 6 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Let your little one’s creativity run wild with sensory arts and crafts every 1st Tuesday of the month. It’s okay to make a mess!

Nature Mobile: Frozen Fur, Fat, & Feathers! Wednesday, November 6th from 3:30 to 4:30pm For all ages. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children).
Animals get ready for winter in many ways. Examine how fur, fat, and feathers can help different animals stay warm in different temperatures at our arctic plunge tank and observe the coats of local animals.

Home Depot Kids Workshop Saturday, November 9th from 11:00am to 1:00pm Children must be accompanied by an adult (limit 1 adult per 5 children). Drop in to build with Home Depot! Construct an exciting new project with real wood and tools and take your creation home with you in this lively, free event for future DIYers. All tools and materials provided.

STEM Lab: Bloxels Wednesday, November 13th from 3:30 to 4:30pm For children ages 5 to 13. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Have you ever wanted to create your own video game? Now is your chance! Come play with Bloxels and learn about game design, coding, and more.

Monday, November 25th from 5:00 to 6:00pm For ages 5 to 13 years. Registration is required for this program. Please register in advance by visiting the library or calling us at 503-259-0185. Need practice reading? Sign up for a session of Reading Buddies at the Aloha Community Library! Kids can improve their reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a trained therapy animal. Read with a dog on second Mondays, or with a cat on fourth Mondays. Sessions are 15 minutes each between 5:00 and 6:00 pm.

Pajama Storytime Tuesday, November 19th from 6:30 to 7:00pm For ages 2 and up. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Put on your favorite pajamas and join us for a cozy evening of stories, songs, and fun for the whole family!

Family Movie Thursday, November 21st from 4:00 to 6:00pm All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Grab your popcorn and join us for a family movie every 4th Thursday at the library! In November’s film, a young orphan is initiated into a world of magic and mayhem by his eccentric warlock uncle and a matronly witch. He uses his newfound magical abilities to help them defeat the forces of evil that threaten to destroy his new home. Rated PG.

LEGO Free Play Wednesday, November 27th from 3:30 to 4:30pm For children ages 5 to 13. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Come explore your creativity with LEGOs every 4th Wednesday of the month! Spend the afternoon creating masterpieces out of the legendary colorful building blocks. We’ll provide the LEGOs; you provide imagination!

Toddler Storytime Mondays from 10:30 to 11:00am For ages 18 to 36 months. Toddler Storytime takes place every Monday at 10:30 am! Join us for stories, songs, rhymes, dances, and activities aimed at children between the ages of 18 and 36 months. Adults are expected to sit with children and participate.

Preschool Storytime Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:00am For ages 3 to 6 years. An interactive storytime for children and their grown-ups filled with stories, songs, rhymes, and activities geared toward getting kids ready to read. Adults are expected to sit with children and participate.

Teen Tech Lab Tuesday, November 5th from 3:30 to 5:00pm For teens in grades 6 to 12 only. Whether you want to play Fortnite with your friends or try out some new tech gadgets, the Teen Tech Lab is for you! We’ll provide laptops, robots, makey makey boards, and more. Just bring yourself and come ready for some fun!

A Will Is Not Enough In Oregon Wednesday, November 13th from 6:00 to 7:30pm Do you know how to safeguard your assets and health care wishes during and after your lifetime? Join us to receive practical advice and up-to-date knowledge about wills, living trusts, health care documents, issues regarding guardianship, and more from this presentation by attorney and author Richard Schneider.

Writers Group Saturday, November 16th from 12:30 to 3:00pm Drop in for a quiet place away from home to hit your word count goal, or to socialize with other local writers. You bring the talent and we'll provide the tea, snacks, and quiet – not to mention a whole building full of research material and inspiration!

Crafternoon: Beaded Safety Pins Tuesday, November 19th from 3:30 to 5:00pm For adults. Registration is required for this program. Come make beautiful bracelets and decorative cuffs for votive candles with us at this Crafternoon! All materials provided.

Monthly Matinée Friday, November 22nd from 2:00 to 4:00pm Join us every fourth Friday of the month for an early afternoon matinée movie selected by our library staff! In November’s movie – an award-winning, Native-made film adaptation of a short story – two young men from the Coeur d’Alene reservation embark on a road trip together to collect the ashes of one’s estranged father from Phoenix, AZ, where he has recently died. Rated PG-13.

Sit n Stitch Thursdays, November 7th and 21st from 1:30 to 3:00pm Monday, November 25th from 6:00 to 7:30pm Bring your knitting, crochet, or other yarn project, and come join the Sit n Stitch group! Trade tips or simply enjoy the company of fellow crafters while you work on your latest creation.
