Your library can be your haven, even when it's closed.

These are uncertain times, and anxiety levels are understandably high. Kids are out of school, and many adults are either home from work or working from home. Life is a bit, well, unusual.

Take a deep breath and know your library is here to get you through these difficult days. We've got great escapes and reading challenges for everyone - kids, teens, and adults, too!

KIDS

Join the "Stay Home and Read" Reading Challenge for Kids!

During the Library's closure, we encourage children ages 12 and under to read, listen, and learn with our "Stay Home and Read" program. Logging books you read or listen to and special challenge activities will earn you points. For every 5 points earned, you will get a virtual raffle ticket that can be used for a chance to win one of our 6 gift baskets. Earn 200 points and win an Elephant and Piggy sticker, a scratch and sniff bookmark, PLUS 5 extra raffle tickets! You can earn even MORE raffle tickets for every 50 points you earn after 200!

This program is set to run from March 23 to May 3, but could be extended if the library is not yet open. Use the Beanstack app (available for iOS and Android) to register, log your reading, and earn points. Or c

You can also check out the Friends of the Children's Library of Huntington Beach Facebook page for even more activities and free digital resources! From online storytimes to free printables and eBooks for all, HBPL has you covered.

Online Storytime

The library may be closed, but our storytellers have been busy cooking up something special for all of their storytime friends!

We will be posting a new storytime video Tuesday through Friday during the closure to help the learning continue from home. Videos can be viewed on the Library's Facebook page or by visiting the brand new Huntington Beach Public Library Storytime YouTube channel. Your child will have fun and keep their early literacy and fine motor skills sharp, too!

Along with storytime video content, keep your eyes open for helpful Storytime@home guides from your favorite HBPL storytellers! Each guide will be full of activities, songs, and HBPL eBooks you can use at home to create your own mini storytime.
