Opinions are mixed about book levels. Some students use them during the school year as a guide to books that are a good fit. They are included here for that reason. At the Indianapolis Public Library, we think school-aged readers need to get lots of reading practice, and that they need to read widely and well. We hope no one uses the book level information provided to discourage reading any of the books on this list. Good readers may like to read books that are easier for them, especially during the summer. Some of these titles are good "stretch" books - readers may be interested enough in the story to try a book that is more challenging than they normally read.
