September marks the 30th anniversary of National Library Card Sign-up Month. Getting a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning, as well as a way to save hundreds of dollars on educational resources for students. At Sherwood Public Library, you have access to free STEAM (Science, Technology, Arts & Math) programs and activities, educational apps, in-person and virtual homework help and classes, test-prep and more. Try our newest resource, Brainfuse, for online tutoring, overnight drop-off help on papers, and even resume and job seeker help. Get started at wccls.org/research/homeworkhelp, starting August 28. Just how much money can you save with a library card? For a typical library user, it's between $75-$500 a month. Visit the Library Value Calculator (ilovelibraries.org/what-libraries-do/calculator) to find your savings. We offer library card options for residents of Washington County, and beyond, as well as a new youth card that gives parents and caregivers an option for a "training wheels" card. Cards are free in nearly all cases. Ask staff for details. This September, the Library is partnering with Sherwood Rotary for International Peace Month with events on global topics ranging from sacred African stories to Cambodian genocide survival. Dive into the history of the Constitution with an exhibit by Daughters of the American Revolution mid-September and celebrate your right to read during Banned Books Week, the last week of September. See you at the Library!
