New Year Message from the Director
On behalf of myself and all of us at Washoe County Library System, Happy New Year!

At the beginning of 2020, none of us knew how difficult this year would be for everyone. In March, our staff pivoted to enhancing virtual services to support the community need for early literacy activities, educational enrichment, and recreational reading. In June, we were able to again offer physical library services, with the introduction of grab-and-go and drive-up hold pickup at most locations.

As fall turned to winter and COVID-19 numbers rose again in our community, we recognized the importance of supporting efforts to limit community spread in our region. With hold pickup service temporarily suspended, many Washoe County Library staff are assisting the school district with contact tracing, while maintaining virtual services and working to prepare our libraries for a safe reopening.
I am proud of how Washoe County Library staff have responded and persevered despite the challenges of 2020. Throughout the crisis, they have demonstrated creativity and dedication to the community by delivering library services, providing PPE during the early months of COVID-19, and assisting with contact tracing. This dedication to service led to our nomination by Senator Catherine Cortez Masto for a National Medal from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

As we near the end of this crisis, I am hopeful for the upcoming new year. We look forward to once again expanding our physical services on January 19, and we are excited to welcome you back into our libraries again soon.

Have a safe and happy New Year!

Sincerely,
Jeff Scott
Washoe County Library Director
