All Libraries Closed for Labor Day All Washoe County Libraries will be closed Monday, September 4 for Labor Day. Additionally, the North Valleys Library will also be closed Tuesday, September 5.

Banned Books Week September 24 - 30 In support of the right to choose books freely for ourselves, the American Library Association and Washoe County Library are sponsoring Banned Books Week, an annual celebration of our right to access books without censorship. This year's observance commemorates the most basic freedom in a democratic society—the freedom to read freely—and encourages us not to take this freedom for granted.

Story Salsa September 26 - 30 Bilingual Storyteller Liz Mangual will delight and enchant listeners of all ages with her signature style of participatory storytelling, as she weaves together a rich tapestry of bilingual stories from ‘latin lands’.

Fall Financial Series September 20 - November 1 Learn how to take charge of your own money and estate. Financial and estate decisions require knowledge in many areas; accounting, finance, legal, insurance, taxes, investments and charitable planning. Experts will help you navigate fundamentals of estate planning; wills, probate, and trusts; estate, gift, and transfer tax; responsibilities of trustees and executors; and more. Workshops take place over seven weeks. Attend any of the workshops. Underwritten by KNPB Channel 5 and the Community Foundation of Western Nevada, along with a number of other community sponsors. Wednesdays, September 20 to Nov 1, Sierra View Library 10:30 a.m. to noon, and 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Washoe Reads: The Orphan Master's Son Join Washoe County Library System in partnership with Nevada Humanities to celebrate a community-wide read of Adam Johnson's The Orphan Master's Son. Book discussions will take place in three parts at six libraries through September 15.
