John L. Smith is an award-winning journalist and is the author of more than a dozen books on some of the most significant characters in Nevada history. For this event he will discuss his book "The Westside Slugger: Joe Neal's Lifelong Fight for Social Justice," the story of the history-making state lawmaker who rose from his humble beginnings to become the first African American to serve in the Nevada State Senate.
