Radon Action Month Radon is the primary cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers, and one in four homes tested in Nevada has elevated Radon concentrations. The Nevada Radon Education Program of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will be offering informational presentations and free radon test kits. Senior Series: Your Time Is Now Monthly informational workshops focusing on hot topics impacting Seniors throughout the community.

History of LGBTQ Reno As far back as 1882, Reno had an LGBTQ presence and is representative of the small but thriving LGBTQ communities in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Historian and LGBTQ scholar Jeff Auer will cover this time period through the Great Recession, including the history of the Reno Gay Rodeo and its effects on the world.

Fiftieth Anniversary of the Reno Philharmonic Cultural geographer Dr. Engrid Barnett, curator of the Nevada Historical Society’s recent exhibit, The Biggest Little Orchestra in the World, will discuss the history of the Reno Philharmonic, which this year celebrates its fiftieth anniversary.

Library Closures All Washoe County Libraries will be closed January 1 in observance of New Year's Day and January 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The North Valleys Library will additionally be closed January 22.
