Books & Bits Slims Down Books and Bits has gone on a diet: the goal is slimmer, trimmer, hipper e-news that’s easy on the eyes both on your phone or desktop. The library’s e-newsletter is nine years old and wants to look its best as it enters double digits. Please let us know what you think. Library Will Have Fewer Programs The budget adopted by the City Council on Tuesday, June 26, will reduce the Library’s budget by $388,000. The current summer program schedule already reflects some reduced programming for all ages. More programs will be reduced in the fall. Children’s and teen book clubs will be eliminated, and story time schedules will be adjusted. Stay tuned for details in the next few weeks.

"Books on the Go" Really Get Around Not everyone can get to the library to sign up for summer reading. So Tigard’s librarians are bringing summer reading to them.

Just Eat It! Documentary on Wasted Food Wednesday, July 18 | 2-3:30 p.m. Did your Mom ever say “clean your plate or no TV tonight?” She was ahead of her time. Although she was mostly concerned about nutrition, she was also encouraging you not to waste food. It’s estimated that Americans discard 25-50 percent of the food that is produced or purchased in America each year is not consumed. Join us for a film and discussion and learn how to make your budget stretch further by conserving food.

Knights of Veritas Medieval Myths and Music Saturday, July 21 Books about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and the Sword in the Stone transport us to another era. While absorbed in tales about chivalry and magic and good vs. evil, have you ever wondered how heavy those suits of armor or swords were? How about what they did when they weren’t slaying dragons? Check out the Knights of Veritas at two separate programs. Adults, too!
