Plant a Seed, Read! Summer Reading Begins Today
June 1 – August 31 | All Ages
 
Visit the library for free books, over 180 events for all ages, and prizes this summer! Everyone gets a free book at Summer Reading sign-up, then receive an exclusive button or sticker badge after completing your reading journey. Kids and teens also receive a second free book upon completion.
Each Summer Reading sign-up counts towards our community goal and helps earn prizes that benefit the entire library! Follow our summer reading mascot’s progress towards the community goal and prizes in the Library Lobby. 
 
This program is supported in part by the Ready to Read Grant program administered by the State Library of Oregon, and by Friends of the Tigard Library.
You’re Invited! WCCLS is Turning 50
Our friends at Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) are celebrating their 50th birthday! Starting June 1, visit us in person to:
  • Get a special edition library card while supplies last.
  • Pick up a passport and collect stamps from the 16 WCCLS libraries. Starting July 1, show your completed passport to library staff and take home a Wallace puzzle while supplies last (1 per household).
  • Attend a 50th birthday party! Details about the Tigard event below.

Celebrate the start of Summer Reading and WCCLS’s 50th birthday! Join us for snacks, crafts and games. Pick out your prize book when you sign up for summer reading, then explore the fun activities for all ages! The first 50 guests will receive a Wallace mug as a party favor (limit 2 per household). You can also get a Wallace sticker available only at a WCCLS birthday party.
Take Our Survey to Shape the Future of Tigard Public Library
 
We are taking the first steps towards developing a new strategic plan for Tigard Public Library, and our work begins with you! Community input is key to setting the direction for our future. Over the coming months the community will have opportunities to share thoughts and priorities through written and in-person surveys, in-library and outreach activities, and focus groups. 
 
Help shape our work by taking our community survey, open now through June 30.

Catch the buzz and zoom into the wonderful world of Oregon bees! Did you know we have more than 500 kinds? Discover mason bees, cuckoo bees, mining bees, longhorn bees, honeybees and more. Mango Language Club

Attention potential polyglots! Have you always wanted to learn a new-to-you language? Now’s your chance to do so with the support of your peers! Use the library’s free resource Mango Languages (or the app of your choice) to train in the tongue of your choice and meet with the club for snacks, sharing, and conversation. This panel discussion by local published authors from the Northwest Independent Writers Association will cover all the steps to creating a book including writing, editing, formatting, and choosing the path to publishing that best suits your goals. It’s never too late to get that one book everyone has in them, out.

Haiku in Nature

Learn about the centuries-old tradition of haiku and how it can connect us more deeply with nature from Oregon Master Naturalist Natalie DaSilva. She’ll explore the history and technique of the art form, share some examples, and give you the opportunity to try it yourself. Beginners welcome and encouraged!

The Business Spotlight Program Now Accepting Nominations! 

The Business Spotlight is a monthly video series highlighting Tigard businesses and the people behind them. By participating, businesses help uplift local entrepreneurship, celebrate diversity, and connect residents with the businesses that make Tigard a great place to live, work, and visit.  If you know of a business that has something to share whether it be a great business story, wonderful service, incredible products, anything you find unique, or if it's your own business, please fill out our nomination form. Celebrate Juneteenth Freedom Day!

This annual City event celebrates the end of slavery in the United States, uplifts Black culture, and brings together community – ALL are welcome to gather and have a good time! Featured speakers and performers include Rose City Pep Academy, Miss Black Oregon, and gospel singer Khalil. Food and beverage provided by PlantBoys PDX and It’s a Vibe Catering. Tigard Public Library will provide books and activities, plus a raffle and more! Volunteers needed – sign up online.

Patriotic sparklers fireworks fourth july independence day flags american
One Big 4th of July – Come One, Come All! 
 
We’re thrilled to provide more information about One Big Fourth – our local 4th of July celebration. The day starts in King City with their Annual Walk & Roll, continues with Tigard’s Middle of Millen Drive Parade, and concludes with activities and fireworks at the City’s 4th of July Celebration at Tigard High School. Celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with friends, family, and fun! The City event’s activities start at 6pm with the Tualatin Valley Community Band, kids’ games, and food trucks, ending with fireworks around 10pm. Additional viewing at Cook Family Park. Volunteers and more food vendors sought – submit interest on event website.
