Return of the Library!
So it’s official, the library is back open! For the most part, that is. We’ve yet to reopen on Saturdays, but the plan is to return to our Saturday hours on July 11th. We’ve reopened the library building and are now letting patrons come in, use the computers for an hour, and pick out their own items to checkout. Curbside services are still available for those who don’t feel comfortable coming in yet.
While we have reopened, things are not quite back to normal. We aren’t allowing patrons to linger for too long and our seating areas are closed off to the public. While we haven’t required patrons to wear masks, we are now uncertain if we will now have to require them with the new executive order the KS governor is implementing. We’ll hopefully know the details to that soon.
Our Summer Reading Program has been going very well. Our kids and teens have exceeded 6000 minutes read over the month of June and our adults have collectively read 25 books so far! There is still time for anyone to join the reading program and we will have prizes for those who complete their reading goals and for our top readers!
Bethany and Rachel have been working hard to bring engaging videos this summer from craft demonstrations to storytimes. Rachel has also been able to visit the Boys and Girls Club a few times and took fun activities for them to do, this last time she took different liquids (oil, syrup, water, honey, etc.) and they learned a little about density. Since we are now able to let patrons into the library we are looking forward to having a couple of in-person programs. We have some special guests lined up to come later in July, However due to still having limits on gatherings we will have to limit the number of in-person attendees to 20 people for each performance. But don’t be discouraged, because we will also host live videos during the events for those at home.
Let your imagination go wild is OK Mad Science! This program is free and for all ages. OK Mad Science’s program journeys through remarkable stories from the past and present to bring storytelling and science to life with imagination, fun and learning using kinetic energy, optical illusions and artificial intelligence. Live happily ever after as you share your story this summer with Mad Science!
Magic Myth & Mirth
July 20th @ 4:30PM
Join the library for special guest Jeff Quinn. Jeff will be bringing us a show of magic, humor, and fun! This program is free and intended for all ages. This show will also feature an original trick that is performed in rhyme. There may even be a trick inspired by a famous boy wizard...
