It's the holiday season!
For those of us in school libraries, recognizing religious and cultural holidays can be challenging. Maybe your school has rules against holiday displays, or maybe you just want to ensure that all students feel included no matter what their beliefs. To that end, it's helpful to think about the ways in which winter holidays evoke a certain spirit to be shared by everyone in your school.

Use NoveList to find books that reflect the holiday spirit, no matter what your students celebrate. December is chock full of holidays--use the printable flyer on the left as a way to highlight the essence of those holidays.
Happy holidays, y'all!

(currently reading the unseasonable kids'
horror anthology Scream and Scream Again!)
It's cold and snowy (or soon to be) here in North America, but our friends in Australia and New Zealand are just warming up. To create this flyer I searched for SU Winter OR SU Snow OR SU Kindness. To customize this flyer for warmer climates, search for SU Summer OR SU Kindness (and don't forget to use GN Australian fiction if you want to showcase homegrown authors).

Looking for similar treatment for other holidays? Just think about what they represent. For example:
  • Valentine's Day = SU Love; SU Friendship
  • St. Patrick's Day = SU Luck
  • Easter or Passover = SU Spring; SU Hope; SU Metamorphosis; SU Freedom; SU Resilience
  • Halloween = GN Ghost stories; TC Scary
  • Thanksgiving = SU Gratitude
