To err is human. To arr is pirate.
Shiver me timbers! September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, and I'm adrift in a sea of puns and phrases to mark the occasion.
A little backstory: in 2002, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Dave Barry wrote an article for the Miami Herald encouraging his readership to embrace this fun little holiday. Was it really that easy? Aye!

And now, with a pirate history on the horizon that Library Journal calls "colorful" and "billowing," it's a great time to be a swashbuckling enthusiast. Whether you're a landlubber or a buccaneer, there are plenty of fun activities to help you and your patrons celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day.
  • The official Talk Like a Pirate Day website includes pirate phrases in English, German and Dutch, as well as lessons, kids' activities, and recipes.
  • A Pirate's Glossary of Terms features historically accurate terminology.
  • This highly scientific quiz reveals your pirate name.
No prey, no pay, hearties!
Coxswain Dirty Ethel Vane (er...Kaitlin)

This book publishes on September 18th,
which as far as I'm concerned
is a missed opportunity!
Sea what I did there?
