Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from the library! We have now launched our Civic Engagement initiative with lots of classes and programs scheduled throughout the year. Key programs in January include the Family Fishing Derby and the Story Central presentation, “Our National Parks in Song and Story,” as well as the launch of a new film series, “Political Thrillers and Documentaries.” As always, we have many new adult instructional classes across the areas of technology, finance, personal enrichment, and more to help you learn a new skill this New Year.

FAU Research in Action: Your Role in Combatting Cyberbullying

Technology misuse among youth is a serious widespread issue. But did you know there are proven actionable strategies to help make cyberspace a safer place? Join Sameer Hinduja, Ph.D., as he talks about the roles of parents -- and the entire community -- in addressing cyberbullying, sexting and unwise social media use among youth.

Family Fishing Derby

Families with children aged 6-17 are invited to join our annual free Fishing Derby. All fishing equipment will be provided. Medals for the winners, and snacks & drinks for all! Be sure to wear sunscreen and bug spray. Dress for an outdoor activity. Enrollment required.

ART EXHIBIT
 
Out of This Planet by Agata Ren
November 8 through February 7, during regular library hours

Visitors to the Art in Public Places area of the Downtown Library will be able to view a variety of bold art pieces featuring endangered animals and flowers. Ren says, “Just like a portrait of a person captures a moment and keeps the image alive, I like to immortalize endangered animals in my artwork.” This free exhibit is open during regular library hours. .
