A New Year of Cultural Connections at the Library!
The new year is a time to kickstart better reading habits, and the Boca Library is here to help by debuting two new book clubs: The Regency Book Club, featuring classics like Jane Austen’s works, and the Unbound World Book Club, which will showcase the best of science-fiction and fantasy. We are also thrilled to announce a new discussion series in partnership with the FAU Division of Research. And don’t forget to attend our new Story Central series focusing on stories from cultures around the world. Plenty of offerings to mark in your new calendar!

Story Central: Around the World with Story, by Judy Sima

Prepare to be entertained, enchanted and inspired by Michigan storyteller Judy Sima, as she shares timely and timeless folktales from the U.S. to Russia, ancient Arabia, Japan and more -- all with an adult spirit and sensibility.
 
FAU Research in Action Discussion Series: Kickoff Session

Seeking ways to better engage with the local community, Florida Atlantic University's Division of Research is partnering with the library to present this year-long series. They will share information about the exciting research that's happening at FAU and seek input from the community on ways that FAU researchers can address problems that are important to them. At this kickoff session, an overview of the series will be presented and upcoming speakers will be introduced.

The Regency Book Club: Sense and Sensibility, by Jane Austen

Revisit and gain a new perspective of beloved classics through this series that will first explore the works of Jane Austen. This month's selection is Sense and Sensibility, Austen's first published work, which portrays the life and loves of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne. It follows the young ladies to their new home, a meagre cottage on a distant relative's property, where they experience love, romance and heartbreak.

Foreign Film Series: In the Shadow of Women (NR, 73min)

Pierre and Manon are a pair of poor documentary makers, who scrape by with odd jobs. When Pierre meets young trainee Elisabeth, he falls for her, but wants to keep Manon at the same time. But the new girl in his life finds out that Manon has a lover. When she tells Pierre, the time comes for difficult decisions all round.

Become familiarized with the Photoshop interface, including toolbar, menu, panels and palettes. Learn how to cut out objects, which selection tool to use when, and how to refine your selection. Become familiar with creating new documents and moving images from one to another.

Delve into more Photoshop features in this class. Crop, straighten and make lens corrections. Introduction to adjustment layers to make color corrections, modify contrast and tones, and more. The course will also explain how to remove items to edit and fix images using the healing brush and other similar tools.

Thanks to funding from the Friends of the Boca Raton Public Library, we had a beautiful float and amazing costumes. We even won 2nd place! Thanks to everyone who cheered us on.
