Teens can dress up as their favorite anime, manga, or superhero character during the annual Cosplay Contest on Friday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. To register for the event, please fill out this form no later than Monday, Oct. 7. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) at Rural Hall Branch Library by attending the Hispanic Heritage Festival on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. Families with children of all ages are welcome to make crafts and eat food during this program. Sensory-Friendly Free Play Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 4-5 p.m. Children (ages 5-11) are welcome to play with sensory-friendly toys and activities in the Rural Hall Branch Library auditorium. A visual schedule will be provided for children and their caregivers.

Genealogy 101: Introduction to Online Genealogy Monday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. Use the library's Ancestry.com and other exciting databases to explore your roots, investigate family ties or just learn a little bit more about your heritage. Online research tips for the library's databases will cover Ancestry.com, African American Heritage, HeritageQuest, and MyHeritage.

Hispanic Heritage Festival Saturday, Oct. 12 from 11 a.m.-noon Help us to celebrate Hispanic culture with crafts like papel picado and cascarones (paper banners and confetti eggs), while enjoying aqua fresca (fruit drink) and decorating sugar cookie skulls. On your visit, check out our collection of materials that highlight Hispanic culture.

PJ Storytime Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Families with children of all ages are welcome to attend a nightly storytime filled with songs, stories, and rhymes.

Spooky Movie Matinee Friday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. Teens (ages 12-17) can join us in the Rural Hall Branch Library auditorium for a special movie showing of "Beetlejuice" (rated PG). Teens can dress up in costume (please be sure costumes are not revealing and weapon props must be made of foam, cardboard, or paper materials), and make a Halloween trick-or-treat bag to take home.

Genealogy 202: Intermediate Genealogy Monday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. Go beyond beginner genealogy to dive deeper into genealogical records research. This program will introduce you to genealogy database research methods and expand your understanding of records useful for genealogy

S.T.E.A.M. Session Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 5-6 p.m. S.T.E.A.M. Sessions allow children (ages 5-11) to develop their skills in S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). This month, children can practice coding with Ozobots (tiny robots that sense direction based on color).

Music and Movement Second Thursday from 11-11:30 a.m. Join us for a fun-filled program for children up to 5 years old and their caregivers. We will have an interactive storytime and use props (shaker eggs, scarves and rhythm sticks) to sing and dance to the music.

Teen Anime Club Friday, Oct. 11 from 4-5:30 p.m. Teens are welcome to annual Cosplay Contest at Rural Hall Branch Library. Teens can wear costumes based on their favorite superheroes, manga characters, anime characters, or graphic novel characters. Prizes will be awarded to Best Costume and Most Creative Costume.
