Kola Nuts Anyone?

What are kola nuts? What do you do with them? Why are they important? Teens will learn the answer to all these questions as they see and handle objects from the Igbo people in the museum's collections. Sponsored by the Wake Forest Museum of Anthropology and On the Same Page. For ages 12 and up.

The Ruler's Crown
Tuesday, Sept. 10, 4:30 p.m.
A king or queen always needs a crown. Using objects from the museum's collection, children will learn about the culture and beautiful beaded crowns of the Yoruba people in West Africa. With a variety of materials, children will create and decorate their own crowns. Sponsored by the Wake Forest Museum of Anthropology and On the Same Page. For ages 5 and up.

Tastes of Africa
Friday, Sept. 27, 4:30 p.m.
Go on a tour of the cuisine of different African countries. Children and teens will be presenting information on their choice of an African country. They will each bring food from that country to share. Everyone is welcome to come learn about African countries and to sample the flavors of Africa. For children 0-17 years old to eat at this event, a parent will need to sign a permission form. Permission forms can be obtained at the Lewisville Branch Library's front desk. Lewisville Branch Library's Teen Advisory Board is made up of Lewisville Branch Library's teen volunteers. We meet on the first Monday of the month (during the school year) to discuss ways to improve the Lewisville Branch Library. The Teen Advisory Board helps to plan programs, create displays, and suggests resources that the library should purchase.
This is our first meeting of the school year, so we will be discussing what the Teen Advisory Board is and ideas for our future meetings.

The Teen Anime Club meets to watch anime, draw manga, and to do special activities related to Japanese culture throughout the year. Grades 6-12. PFLAG Informational Table/Out at the Movies Movie Trailers

PFLAG is a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) persons through support, education and advocacy. PFLAG’s Winston-Salem chapter serves Forsyth and the surrounding North Carolina counties. Out at the Movies will be joining PFLAG to show movie trailers for the upcoming LGBTQ film festival.
