Fifty years ago today, nearly half a million young people gathered at a dairy farm in New York for three days of peace and music that would come to define a generation. Happy birthday, Woodstock!

Sherwood Public Library is the southernmost library in Washington County, located in charming Old Town Sherwood. Their mission is to inspire discovery, enrich lives and build community through equitable access to life-long learning. The library began in 1935 as a dedicated shelf of books in the local drugstore. The current location, opened in 2005, offers a collection of more than 50,000 items – including a new Library of Things – and 600+ programs per year. The library is proud to be a strong contributor to what makes Sherwood a vibrant community. Photos by Jenny Swanson

"Set in 1930’s Appalachia, a pack horse librarian known as “Bluet” for the color of her skin is tasked with delivering books to the people of the hollers—a very poor and isolated community. Recommended for those who love well developed, character-based stories and social justice themes." -Becky G., Sherwood Public Library

"This book is comprised of the contact sheets containing entire rolls from some of the most iconic photo shoots in hip-hop. Each photographer shares their memories of the shoot, along with the shots that didn’t make the final cut. Presented in chronological order, Contact High chronicles the hip-hop industry from 1980-2012 through the lens of a camera." -Adam L., Sherwood Public Library

"A light, fun read. Happily predictable and full of lovable, funny characters that I enjoyed spending time with. The story centers around a woman who ends up going on her twin sister’s honeymoon trip with the best man whom she is not on the best of terms with. You might guess what happens next, but it's still a very worthy read." -Becky G., Sherwood Public Library
