Replacement Levy for Countywide Library Services
The Board of County Commissioners has placed Measure 34-235, a replacement levy for countywide library services, on the November 3rd ballot. For 39 years, Washington County Cooperative Library Services has provided funding for public library operations, central support and outreach programs linking together city and community libraries. This levy replaces a 5-year levy expiring June 2016, which provides 1/3 of WCCLS funding. What Would Measure 34-235 Do? Click here for more information.

Early Literacy Resources at the Library
Did you know that one of the biggest predictors of reading success at school is an engaging language-rich environment at home? You’re in luck - Washington County libraries have you covered. On top of the 628,000 juvenile items currently being browsed and checked out around the county, our libraries have knowledgeable staff that enriches the lives of over 280,000 child visitors every year. WCCLS libraries stock their shelves with the best materials in a kid-friendly way, engage children and their caregivers in weekly storytimes aimed at specific ages and skills, and reach children where they are in their local communities. Literacy is a vehicle for all learning and is the greatest gift we can give the children in our community.

Life-long Learning Opportunities
One of the best services WCCLS offers is the shared library collection that all patrons have access to. Did you know that through the WCCLS system, our 263,000 library card holders have access to over 1.6 million books and other materials? That’s the equivalent of about five Beaverton Main Library collections. The same can be said for the monthly offering of hundreds of literature, career and culturally focused programs and services presented throughout the 15 WCCLS member libraries. From visits by Acclaimed Authors to learning the Basics of Going Solar or hands-on assistance with Computer Skill Development – there is sure to be a local library-based program or service that will meet the needs of the nearly 3.9 million visitors we welcome each year.

Summer Reading: That's a Wrap!
Over 30,000 children ages 0-18 kept their brains strong over summer break at their local WCCLS member libraries. Attendance at library programs countywide reached 55,745! Here are a few Summer Reading successes local parents have shared with us: “I have always recommended books to my daughter and this summer she recommended a book to me. She read so much; some of it wasn’t in her normal genre!” “My son is 18 months old. He has learned animal names, colors, shapes, about trucks, dinosaurs, and more. He wakes up in the morning wanting to read books. I'm so proud.” “My child stopped eating books and started enjoying reading books!!” Thank you to all Summer Reading participants for sharing your joy with us at the library!
