Banned Books Week September 26th-October 2nd
Banned Books Week is an annual event that celebrates the freedom to read. It highlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools.

Banned Websites Awareness Day
In connection with Banned Books Week, on Wednesday, September 29th the American Association of School Libraries (AASL), aims to bring attention to the filtering of educational and social websites that are used by students and educators.

2022 Banned Books Symposium
In partnership with Mount Saint Mary College, Southeastern New York Library Resources Council, Ramapo Catskill Library System, and BOCES School Library Systems of Dutchess, Orange-Ulster, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, a Banned Books Symposium will be taking place virtually on Saturday, March 5, 2022. Congratulations Matt Thorenz!
Matt Thorenz, of Moffat Library is being awarded the NSDAR Historic Preservation Recognition Award for his work on preserving and promoting the local history and genealogy resources in our area!
 
Mr. Thorenz will be doing a zoom presentation on his new book for the Friends Annual Meeting on Wednesday October 7th at 7:00 p.m. Click here to register.

Coffee and Connect for BIPOC Library Workers:
On Monday, September 20th join the Coalition for Library Workers of Color (a NYLA roundtable) for a 1-hour virtual meetup/community space for BIPOC and members of marginalized communities within the library profession. This event is open to everyone!

The Great Giveback
The Great Give Back is a Community Service Initiative created by the Suffolk County Library Directors Association and the Suffolk Cooperative Library System; in conjunction with the Nassau Library System.
 
Their mission is to provide a day of opportunities for the patrons of the public libraries of New York State to participate in meaningful service-oriented experiences.
