You've probably been wondering what's happening with the elevator. Unfortunately, the first contractor bid round for the new elevator to replace the lift in the front entry was unsuccessful. Forbes Library is working with the city and architect Thomas Douglas (at left) to prepare another round of bidding for this fall with work set to be completed during the winter. "We are disappointed that the process is taking longer than anticipated but are still on track to get an attractive and fully functional elevator," said Forbes Trustee President Russell Carrier.

Rapid Recovery from the Fire

|
While repairs continue in the wake of the July fire, most of the library's second floor, including the Hosmer Gallery, is now open, accessible by elevator. The gallery and second floor lobby still need to be painted, and those areas will be temporarily closed when work begins. Reconstruction and re-carpeting of the staircase continues and is expected to be completed in about a month.

Volunteer Appreciation Day

Library volunteers enjoyed grilled foods and local corn on August 21. Rain forced the bbq indoors, but a good time was still had by all. The annual event, sponsored by the Friends of Forbes Library, is a way of thanking the many people who contribute hours and hours of their free time to help the library and the community.
