I have just moved to the area, with my three kids (aged 3, 5 and 9). Do you have any activities for children?
|
We sure do! We have a number of sessions for preschoolers each week during school term. Check out our preschool page for details. For your school aged children we have Lego Club and Makerspace running throughout the school term, along with regular holiday programming. Our website and Facebook page are kept up to date with scheduled activities so keep an eye on that. We also have our annual Summer Reading Challenge, which is suitable for all of your children. This is a really fun programme where participants are able to win great prizes and attend a cool finale party featuring an entertainer. We also have plenty of programmes and activities for adults too if you wanted something for yourself too! Feel free to ask at the library when you are next in.

Can I use my Waimakariri Library card at Christchurch Libraries?
|
No. Your Waimakariri Library card can only be used at Waimakariri Libraries - Rangiora Library, Kaiapoi Library, and Oxford Library. Your Waimakariri Library card will not be accepted at any other libraries around the country unfortunately. Please also note that you cannot return your Waimakariri Library books to Christchurch City Libraries either. They need to come back to one of our libraries (Rangiora, Kaiapoi, or Oxford).

I have found some strange beetles in my garden. If I bring in a picture of them, will you be able to help me identify them, and let me know if they are good for my garden or harmful?
|
We can certainly try! Bring in a picture (on your phone is fine), and we can look through our books and some online resources and see what we can find. Make note of any other distinguishing features as it might help us to identify them. If we can't help you identify the beetle, we will find someone who can!

It happened one doomsday
by Laurence MacNaughton
Librarian Amy says: This is an action-charged, humorous urban fantasy. Dru Jasper was quietly going about her business, trying to make her small crystal shop a success, and thinking about a future with her dentist boyfriend when she suddenly finds herself in the team trying to prevent Doomsday. Dru is a very lovable, smart and memorable heroine. Armed with fashion feisty Opal and tough as nails Rane at her side, she stumbles into a mess of apocalyptic horsemen, magic, and a touch of romance. Witty, fun and fast paced.
