Sixth Annual Teen Poetry Contest

Celebrate National Poetry Month with the library's Sixth Annual Teen Poetry Contest. The contest's three divisions are: 6th grade, 7th and 8th grades and high school. The contest will begin April 1, and the deadline for entries is 9 p.m. April 30. Winners will be announced mid-May, and the winning poems will be posted online. Prizes from area bookstores will be awarded. Pick up an entry form at any Naperville Public Library location or enter online at naperville-lib.org/teens/

Thursday, April 14, 7:00 pm Meeting Room A This seminar will address common pitfalls of students with focus on studying and note-taking effectively and efficiently. Students will be able to identify their own areas of strengths and weaknesses, understand their personal learning style and learn tips and strategies for long-term information retention. Students will also gain skills in creating study plans, choosing study groups and learning to test with confidence. This program is presented in partnership with C2 Education. Program requires advanced registration.

Do-It-Yourself (Craft Series) Blankets and Toys for Shelter Animals(NIC)

Teens can help a furry friend in need during spring break as they can make fleece blankets for cats and toys out of T-shirts for dogs. Fleece will be provided, but participants should bring two old T-shirts. All items will be donated to ADOPT Pet Shelter, and teens can earn community service hours. Program requires advanced registration and is limited to 15 teens. For teens in 6th through 12th grades.

3-D Software & Printing For Teens (95th)

Idea Lab
Learn how to design a three-dimensional object using 3-D software as well as the process of printing it using the library's 3-D printer. Program requires advanced registration with a fee and is limited to 12 participants. 95th Street Library, Idea Lab Tuesday, April 12, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Young Adult Book Discussions

Young Adult Book March Madness! It's March Madness time, but instead of NCAA basketball, the brackets are full of young adult books. Thirty-two YA and manga titles from 2015 have been selected and placed in the YA Book March Madness Brackets. On March 1, teens can start casting ballots for their favorite YA titles in the first round. Each week, the field will be narrowed down to the final showdown on March 29, and a YA March Madness Champion will be crowned April 5. Check the library's website, http://www.naperville-lib.org/teens/yamarchmadness, each week to cast a vote.

YAY FOR YA! An Online Goodreads Book Club "Recurring, ongoing program. Lovers of YA literature can sign up for the library's online Goodreads book club. Each month, a new book will be selected, and readers can discuss it online through the participant's Goodreads account. Request to join the group "Yay for YA!: An Online Book Club" on Goodreads or email teen librarian Alison Colman at acolman@naperville-lib.org. New books will be posted at the beginning of each month, and participants will have the entire month to read it and discuss."

Monthly Teen Book Giveaway (95th)

Bookworms can receive a new book or advanced reading copy by visiting the lower level teen services desk on the second to last Monday of the month for the Teen Book Giveaway. To receive the book, teens should write a book review (the good, the bad and the ugly reviews will all be accepted) for the book received. Reviewers should return the book review to the library within the next month. These will be the last two teen book giveaways before the library takes a break for summer. For teens in 6th through 8th grades.
